If I go for my flu jab today and am also suffering from a nasty cold, will they turn me away?

Just that really. DS has the cold and DH has had it very badly. I'm pretty sure I've got it too now but don't have a temp (DS does). I'm also pregnant. Will they tell me I can't have the jab? I really want to get it done if it's safe.

My DH had it and he was suffering from a cold at the time. I think as long as you don't have a temp it is ok.

Hodgins · 12/11/2008 12:47

Agree with tiggi - at my surgery they only say no if you have a temperature.

BEWARE!!!! They told me it was fine to have it with a cold (which I had when I had the jab) and 2 days later, having started to lose the cold in between I came down really ill with laryngitis which lasted for weeks My Mum said that when she had her jab the day after mine (different area of UK) she was given a leaflet saying NOT to have the jab if you have a cold, which is what I have been told previous years. Now it may have been a coincidence, but I am mightily suspicious of coming down very poorly 2 days after the jab like that.

blueskyandsunshine · 12/11/2008 13:08

I wouldn't. But that's me. But I really wouldn't.

SlartyBartFast · 12/11/2008 13:11

no, i dont think they will turn away.

SlartyBartFast · 12/11/2008 13:12

but is there anyy reason why you would be at risk from the flu?
otherwise i wouldnt bother.

mrsgboring · 12/11/2008 13:12

Thanks everyone. I will ask them.

Why are you going in to a clinic, where people who are immune compromised and thus getting a flu jab, with an viral infection such as a cold?

I think you need to think about other people, and not just yourself actually! you sound very self centred tbh.

I would reschedule and be social minded about your disease.

mrsgboring · 12/11/2008 13:53

Because I will be in and out in 2 mins (very slick operation in our local surgery) won't touch anyone and won't leave any tissues. I will wash my hands before I go.

However, doctors and nurses and receptionists still have to go to work with a cold. If it were chickenpox or something like that, yes of course I would stay home.

I have had something or other for several weeks (am of course mildly immunocompromised myself owing to pg). We are reaching the end of the flu jab season, and have missed out on one in previous years owing to the surgery having run out of jabs and slots. If that is self centered, then fair enough. I do have to consider myself as well as others.

Zazen most people who are go to a doctors surgery when they are ill, they don't wait until they are better???? Hence why surgery's exist. You are not being selfish MrsBoring.

rbrand · 12/11/2008 14:04

Sorry, I can hardly string a sentence together properly when I'm due on .

AnnieAreYouOkAreYouOkAnnie · 12/11/2008 14:05

Am I too late? Same thing as Jammy happened to me, I had had a cold for about a week, not tooooo bad, had the jab (immuno-compromised [defensive]) and then got really bad cold, cough and chest infection...
They didn't turn me away though, but maybe ask them about the risk, it's not nice to get all that while pg...
good luck

mrsgboring · 12/11/2008 15:55

I've had the jab, and hardly even feel like I've got a cold any more; feeling much better. Have been so stressed about this, I think, trying to convince surgery that yes, pg women can have the vaccine.

Thank you for all the warnings re vaccine making cold worse. Shall try to take it really easy for the next few days.
