I really do not know what to do for the best. My dd is 15 weeks old. She was sick a couple of times last weekend but then last |Monday she started getting diarrhea. I got sick the same day (vomiting) as did my 5 year old dd and my hubby. We have had mild diarrhea too. My prob is with my 15 week old she still has diarrhea after 1 week.she has seen doc 3 times and nurse once 1 doc said to see how she goes feed as normal keep hydrated. After 4 days took to see nurse to check she was still ok. Again she said she is well hydrated carry on. This Saturday she was in pain whilst feeding saw another doc told to water down formula - 2 scoops to 210ml for 1 day then increase to 4 and then to normal and if no better try soya for 1 week. Now we did the 2 scoops for a day dd was very hungry obviously but yesterday she had over 1200ml fluid but didn't pooh. I thought we were turning a corner but the hunger was too much to bear and so did 1 feed with 4 scoops and then went back to the 7 scoops. Today she has had diarrhea again it's 3 or 4 times in 24 hours ( I have had to take some immodium today)I took her to docs again today and was told to keep an eye (she has a sore throat too)and take her back if anything changes. Should I try again with the watered down milk, stick to normal or put her on formula - apparently this could go on for 3-4 weeks surely not. It comes out of the nappy everytime up her back etc but I think this could be because of the Aloe balm in the nappy (usually use reusables but these won't hold this.

Are you trying baby with water as well - also are babies this young allowed diarolyte - I would check as baby could become dehydrated having diarrhoea and sickness this long.

Have they tested her poo for salmonella?

MmeLindt · 11/11/2008 20:41

Sorry, just read that back, don't panic if they havent but I would think that after a few days that they would have.

Seem to have people stumped on this one bloody rotavirus!Lovebeingamummy thanks for bump x. She only vomited on the first day thank goodness. She does like her water and so she is topping up with that and I do have diorylyte (dd1 is getting use to the tatste of it now!!). They don't think it's salmonella as whole family has had it. I had her weighed today and she hasn't lost any weight which is good. I asked HV her opinion and she said to alternete between her normal formula and the soya formula . Apparently it is normal for this to go on for 3-4 weeks. I did ask GP if they needed a sample (even took a nappy in with me just in case) but they will do this after 3/4 weeks!I think I will just carry on as normal for a few more days and see what happens. Keeping her hydrated is the most important thing if things get worse will go back to GP again. Thanks for your time xx

Have you had confirmation that it is rotavirus? DS had salmonella when he was 4mths old and he was tested on about day 3 afair.

As long as she is not drying out then I would go on as you are.

Poor wee soul, it is horrible for them isn't it. Hope she gets better soon.

rotavirus was mentioned as we have all had sickness and diarrhea. It is certainly going round friends and family. I haven't known it to go on for so long. dd1 had it but not at this young age and certainly not for so long.

Anyway as dd2 had not lost any weight and wasn't dehydrating I figured I was doing all the right things. yesterday she did poo just once and then today it looks so much better so 10 days it's taken. I think it was all the contradicting oinions I was getting from docs that just made me wonder whether I was doing the right thing. Guess we are always learning. Thanks for your help x
