HORMONES and how they are driving me insane (oh, and do your nipples still leak years after they should?)

I can still squeeze colostrum from my nipples even though my youngest is 7, is that any where near normal? It's more pronounced around my period.

I am suffering with hormones, PMT, acne, greasy lank hair, lovely moustashe for three weeks out of four and about to book an appointment for GP (though I'm not sure they'll be able to do much)

I'm on mirena coil which saved my life by stopping my spectacular periods but wondering if it is causing some of the problems...

Blooming hormones. Grrrrr.

Oh forgot to mention the bloating, weight fluctuations, dizzyness...

Also on Mirena (which also fixed my dreadful periods) and am also still producing colostrum - nearly 2 years after stopping bf. Hormones completely unpredictable. Am trying to wait things out until my Mirena needs changing in 18 months and then will have a few months off to see what the score is... I suspect that the hormonal weirdness is the price I have to pay for having no period problems. There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

I really don't want to loose the Mirena, my periods were becoming really ridiculous with me having to change tampons every 30 minutes (and they were the super duper industrial ones) and not being able to leave the house for a couple of days in fear of leakage disasters.

Hormonal weirdness maybe will be the lesser of two evils then.

No one else got leaky boobs then? Must admit it was this which seemed at bit weird and why I was going to the doctors.

Ah well, if things get desperate, I figure I can always moonlight as a wetnurse...

Tiggiwinkle · 10/11/2008 10:21

I still "leak" sometimes and my youngest is 9! I did breastfeed five DSs though!

elsiepiddock · 10/11/2008 13:26

Well I had a Mirena, 4 years after I stopped breast feeding and boobs had dried up - no leaks.

Whilst I had the Mirena my nips started to leak dark brown stuff!! Was worried and ended up having a mammogram. Doc said it was probably a reaction to the coil.

Had lots of other problems with it too such as weight gain, horrible acne all over my chin and terrible moods.

Have had it removed and boobs no longer leaking.

girlandboy · 10/11/2008 13:30

I think I would have made a superb medieval wet nurse. I didn't dry up until about 4 years after stopping feeding. It's dried up now, though I still get..... Oh the shame. I'm assuming there must be microscopic leakages.

Such leakage is caused by an excess of the hormone prolactin; it can be treated with tablets. The GP should be doing blood tests as well to see what your hormone levels are like.

I certainly think you should be visiting your GP and whilst there talk about getting a referral to a gynae as well. If you are flooding there is a cause; you should be checked to see if fibroids are present (these can certainly cause heavy bleeding).
