Any top tips?

She has had a very bad chesty cold thingy for three weeks but yesterday just kind of keeled over, couldn't breathe, numb fingers, sweats etc and was very frightened.

Went to GP who prescribed pennicillin and she has had 3000mg since yesterday early evening. She is no better at all and whilst I am not expecting miracles i did thinks she may be a little better this morning.

Anybody got any tips/advice?

She is bedridden as so short of breath and is achy-I am making her drink, administering Ibuprofen but not sure what eles I can do?

I didn't get help quickly when I had it - took 7 weeks to recover and weak for a while after that. Still - it helped me give up smoking. But it is a very serious illness - potentially fatal - get medical help now.

An update for you lovely lot-I think we are turning a corner.
Managed to get her into the bath last night,DD allowed her to use her bubbles, which of course made things much better .
Combination of clean self and clean sheets she says made her feel a bit better.
Also managed to get some soup down her.
Still had bad night sweats but a much better night than previous. The coughing is awful though-even makes me feel sick.

Going to get Doc out today.

Thanks to all of you,I do at least know this is going to take a long time to get over.In 15 yrs together she has not had more than a cold poor thing.

Glad she managed a bath and some soup.

Let us know how you get on with the doctor make sure he/she knows how worried you have been.

If she is coughing productively (I am assuming that she is if it's making you sick) that may mean she is getting better. Feeling cack and sweaty is horrible but it's the chest thing that is the real killer - sorry don't mean be to be dramatic but it can be. If she's over that it may be OK. Spoken as an athsmatic from age 6 who has had pneumonia, double pneumonia, pleuresy, bronchitis many many times over. I get quite scared when I can't breathe - I know what it can lead to.

She could still do with a visit from a GP though.

I had it four years ago and needed 3 different kinds of antibiotics, progressively stronger, before I could get better. We would try one type and then wait 2-3 days and then try another. I ended up on the antibiotics they give you for things like bird flu and anthrax, and they worked.

I also had two chest x-rays (did your dd have any of those?) They wanted to keep me out of hospital if at all possible as it was quite nasty and they didn't want me giving it to the other patients. However there was one day when I laid in bed hearing my lungs crackling away when I though 'if this was the 1930s pre-pencillin I would be dead by now'.

Pneumonia is a very serious illness and needs respect as such. I would whisk her into A and E tomorrow morning if she's the same, just to be on the safe side.
