i get them every year, last year on nearly every toe. am using some cream atm but has anyone got any suggestions on how to avoid getting them in the first place? am wearing sensible shoes for school run (flat leather lace ups or knee length boots) and copious amounts of socks in the house.

Keep them warm and dry and don't use hot waterbottles. lovely standard advice but rather useless it seems if you are very prone to them. am on my second bout this winter and for the first time they have ulcerated. Its utterly horrible.

Have you spoken to your gp about it? Sometimes otc steroid cream can help relieve symptoms but worth talking about it with gp if you get them badly.

Stand in the bath and wee over them. Mt grandmother swore by this.
