Why would Drs be wanting to do a liver ultrasound?

My dad's still ill in hospital, and getting worse. 2 days now, still waiting for blood cultures to come back to see if it is a bacterial infection. Antibiotics don't seem to be helping.

Dad said they're going to ultrasound his liver tomorrow. I'm worrying they suspect cancer?

He's shaking, temp, very bad nausea, can't eat, barely drink, sleeps all the time, very weak, loads of pain in his head and neck - says the pain is like pressure. His eyes are bloodshot. I think his abdomen looks distended, but didn't mention it to him. He doesn't look jaundiced, just very pale.

They will be checking for blockages of the bile ducts/enlargement/gall bladder. They generally don't just look at the liver, they will scan all the major organs. It's standard investigations just to rule things out rather than to look for anything specific.

Stay strong, I hope he's well soon.

There are lots of reasons for liver scans. I had one when i had OC in pregnancy. They looked at the shape and size and blood flow (probably other things too)
