...what are the implications of me NOT having it a) xrayed and b) plastered?

I get married in 4 weeks and cannot have a foot in a cast

i carried on walking as half of my foot got left behind on a set of drawers. at least 2 of my toes went at right angles and are very sore today, as is my actual foot (kind of where the knuckle would be if it were a fist) I can't put v much weight on AT ALL. no swelling and my feet are pretty yucky and bluey/red most of the time so can't tell if its bruised!

FWIW, i have broken most bones in my body and i have never ever swelled up...i am some kind of freak!

I don't think they put feet in casts anyway do they? I broke a toe once and was told to use crutches and take paracetomal?

I would say make sure your new wedding shoes are slightly big, but if you don't swell up - no problem!

I broke my foot last year. I went round limping for a week before I went to the hospital and it got sorer and sorer and bigger and bigger. But when I went to hospital they didn't put it in plaster just told me not to walk on it for 6 weeks. I got crutches which I needed initially but by 4 weeks I could limp round ok.

I would go to the hospital and then rest like mad so you can enjoy your wedding.

Good luck

toes they don't bother with but have never broken my foot before...my god the pain is HUGE! The school run will be interesting

I ripped a ligament (or something) in my foot a few years ago. They thought it was broken but it wasn't. Sore for about 10 days then just a bit painful.

OrmIrian · 31/10/2008 15:27

Oh dear Bad timing. I hurt my foot in August. Thought nothing of it but it got more and more sore. Went to the hospital to be told it wasnt' broken only to receive a letter 2 days later telling me that actually it was I was a bit taken aback to be put in a huge cast and given crutches. For 5 weeks! TBH if it hadn't been so painful I wouldn't have bothered. If you aren't in lots of pain I would leave it and see what happens.

Oh just read that you are in loads of pain. In which case I would go.

MerlinsBeard · 31/10/2008 15:31

oh poo. i am in pain thru paracetamol, will see if co codamol helps when i am allowed to have another dose. think i am going to see how i go over night and go to A&E in morning as DP around to watch DS1 and 2 (will have to take ds3 with me as he is bf and will keep me company for 25 hours while i am seen)

OrmIrian · 31/10/2008 15:46

What a shame mom. Hope it isn't broken. Might not be but it has to be checked out. If it is perhaps they can give an alternative option to plaster.

mrsgboring · 31/10/2008 15:48

My friend broke her leg a few weeks before her wedding - the medics were brilliant and removed the cast for the day itself and gave her some kind of splint thing that was very discreet then put cast back on afterwards.

MerlinsBeard · 31/10/2008 15:49

also, and you WILL find me a freak now, i don't like feet especially my own, and people touching my feet makes me dry heave

Heated · 31/10/2008 15:52

Ouch! There are lots of little bones in the foot and it's quite easy to break one but even severe bruising can damn well hurt! I hairline fractured my big toe a long while ago and spent 3 months wearing doc martins! They generally don't plaster for a broken foot ime unless it's the ankle.

The advice I received was to pack with ice, elevate foot and wear good supporting shoes - hence the DMs.

JulesJules · 31/10/2008 16:00

You could do as Heated suggests - I believe you can get gold DMs...

MerlinsBeard · 31/10/2008 16:02

gold fits my theme

i have been resting it today (as mych as poss with 3 DCs anyway!) no need for ice as its FREEZING here

here you are - lovely!

MerlinsBeard · 31/10/2008 16:10

they are so tacky lovely

my toes are sooo cold - luckily all my shoes are cheap so not too big and not too small. think i may strap it up and pad it a bit.one of the boys is bound to stand on it!

Any news mum ??

MerlinsBeard · 01/11/2008 13:48

I didn't go to A&E. But before i get yelled at, it still hurts but less than yesterday, i can put more weight on my foot even if i do have to walk on the side mostly. I have it snuggly strapped up now. My ankle is achy but i think that's more to do with the fact that i have been walking oddly on it.

OP posts:
Tillyscoutsmum · 01/11/2008 15:32

Ah well - glad to hear its better than yesterday and I hope it keeps improving. A plaster cast wouldn't be ideal on your wedding day

BTW

4 WEEKS TODAY . Can you tell I'm a teeny bit excited ?!

MerlinsBeard · 01/11/2008 21:21

it would be FILTHY by then too (and so smelly! and my toes\would be BLUE

am in a lot of pain again, was going to go to A&E this evening but DP ill, he will not wake if one of the boys needs him (and ds3 WILL need a feed) also, its sat night and i doin't fancy sitting there on my own with the saturday night crowd! Plus i can't get there, i don't drive and have no money for bus/taxi!

am a bit with DP actually. If i had known he was working today i would prob have gone last night, and when i said i was thinking of going, instead of him saying i "will drop you off" he said "it's quite a walk to the xxx stop and it's cold out"

OP posts:
Tillyscoutsmum · 02/11/2008 11:12

How is it today ?? Is DP there to take you ? Sunday lunchtime should be a bit quieter ? You really ought to get it looked at if its not getting any better on its own [nagging mother type emoticon]

Whereabouts are you ?

MerlinsBeard · 02/11/2008 14:34

have been. Was seen quickly and it's not broken YAY!! I have badly bruised bones (AKA they don't why the hell it hurts so much but there is no break) I have to rest it as much as pos, walk as normal as poss and it should be back to normal in plenty of time for the wedding, although i am not allowed to choreograph our first dance now as i would prob aggravate it.

OP posts:
Tillyscoutsmum · 02/11/2008 14:51

Oh - that's great news

Rest up then and enjoy being waited on whilst you can

OrmIrian · 03/11/2008 12:26

Hmmmm ..don't wish to cast a cloud but that's what they said to me when I went to A&E. Apparently it was a tiny break and very difficult to spot. Initially they told me I have brusing too. They sent me a letter a few days later to say they had been mistaken.

But fingers crossed. I'm sure you'll be fine.

MerlinsBeard · 03/11/2008 14:36

oh no!!

He had my x ray on the computer and zoomed in on the bit that was hurting, changed the contrast and (i thought) looked very closely at it. He found an old break on my little toe that had healed oddly and a break on the top of my foot that i must have done YEARS ago and never even noticed!

Its a lot better today actually, still hurts but paracetamol is helping today

OP posts:
OrmIrian · 03/11/2008 15:07

Ah...well you are probably OK then

Actualyl when I got the letter I was releived TBH, as my foot was absolute agony, I could hardly walk and was the size of a small house. Notquite so releived when I realised the consequences of 6 weeks of plaster cast
Good luck
