Yes, last couple have been painful / bled, not sure why.
Also, last one, because of blood the sample wasn't good enough (don't know the term, sorry) so was recalled
How's your DS?

bumbly · 24/10/2008 21:22

I had one 2 years ago when they told me they were using a new cell collecting implement, like a little brush, which felt funny but certainly didn't hurt.
Not sure it should hurt.

You okay now?

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 24/10/2008 21:23

no, don't think it is the norm to be painful, but having said that my last one was very uncomfortable...check out the really good smear thread we've got going...

SharpMolarBear · 24/10/2008 21:23

I don't know, always assumed it was me, never thought it might be the way they were doing them. Yes, until those (I think it was just one smear, but obv it was repeated) I'd always been fine, no pain or bleeding.
Spotty? What's up with him?

Psychodelick · 24/10/2008 21:24

my last was really painful, I screamed out loud - she then tried a different 'probe' and I was so much more comfortable, but I had Csection not natural birth.

SharpMolarBear · 24/10/2008 21:25

Should mention my last one was pre DS

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 24/10/2008 21:25

look here - v helpful

Bleeding isn't unusual and will only affect the result if there was a lot of blood, as then the smear sample reader can only see blood cells and not cervical cells.

How old is your baby? If it's only a few months since giving birth the cervix can still be rather fragile.

Having an infection can also make it painful and cause bleeding.

bumbly · 24/10/2008 21:28

if you bleed could they harm your cervis by scarring it?

was a bloody stinging sensation!

never ever had that before and nurse attributed conmpletely to new method

but wanted to check what you lovely ladies thought

We now use a cytobrush which collects a better specimen. Can make some ladies bleed.

Will not harm your cervix and will not scar it.

thanks kitty
