Would you be concerned about a large 'egg' on your 2yr old head if they seemed fine otherwise?

DS2 (2 yrs) has bumped his head and although it seems sill im not sure when or how except that dp picked him up earlier and gave him a cuddle becuase he was crying whilst playing in his room this was about 3hrs ago.

Now he has a massive egg on his head but is otherwise fine, a little clingier than normal but we hav e just returned form holiday so he may be a little unsettled.

We were umming and arring about calling NHS direct or taking him to a&e for no other reason than it's a real big lump on his for head. If we were to take him to A&E we would wait hours in a room full of friday night drunks and he would be grotty and tired and even more disrupted.

I have put him to bed now and he's asleep needless to say i plan to check him reguarly.

Im not overly concerned he's a very bumpy child he's always bumping himself on someting or other.

I am not concerned, he has had smaller lumps before, infact one had just gione down in the exact same place as this one.

Dp was worried and had me secnd guessing my origional judgment.

Was he confused or disorientated? Where his pupils equally dilated? Would he normally be tired enough to be asleep this early? Here's the NHS Direct stuff about head injury, read this and if any alarm bells ring take him to your nearest A&E.

DD2 (also 2) had an egg on her forehead last week, she tripped and hit her head on the egde of a step, it was gruesome and swelled up very fast, I iced it (small bag of frozen peas in a muslin) and put some arnica cream on it. She was fine and dandy, and ran around like a loony at a soft play birthday party later the same day!

No confusion or anything and have done all normal checks for concussion, i know the drill both my boys are accident prone!

He is always in bed at 6pm its his normal bed time.

It was purley just the size of the lump that was a bit eek! But he was fine in himself no vomitting or anything like that.

Thats exacty what i thought, i have a fair bit of medical info under my belt and always thought it was more of an issue if there were inward injuries than out.

Wow, how do you get a 2 year old in bed every night by 6? I'm jealous!! Does he still have a daytime nap?

Yes sorry, i didn;t reply to this earlier but if your about monkies, DS2 does still have an hour nap in the day after lunch then is in bed and asleep at 6pm 6.30 at the latest.

How is the lump getting on?

Oh much better thank you. Its a horrible black shade now but it has got slightly smaller.
