Mum has Enlarged Uterus - not a Cyst. What does this mean??

My mum was taken to hospital on Sunday in a lot of pain. She was told she has an enlarged uterus, there is a "mass" there. She had a scan today, and has been told its definitely not a cyst. She's still in a lot of pain (including her back and legs). Her next appointment is not till later this week, with a gynae specialist. Does anyone know what this might mean?

Fibroids?? My mum had these - she had an op to have them removed. It's fairly common I think.

Thanks Pumpkin, thats reassuring. Mum seems to think she'll need a hysterectomy (shes menopausal age). Was that the case with your mum? Despite my resolves not to consult Dr. Google ever, I did search for stuff on enlarged uterus, and a lot of uterine cancer materials came back, so I have been worried.
