Sweating a lot, even when it is cold outside - quite embarrassing

This is quite embarrasing but it has started to affect my life. I do tend to sweat a lot, usually on my forehad, which is very embarrassing as it is so visible. Does anyone else have this problem or does anyone have a solution? Sometimes I break into a sweat just doing my shopping or the school run and this is bad, especially if it is not particularly cold outside. Would be grateful for any advice

Have you been to the GP ? It may be connected to your thyroid

GrapeJelly · 13/10/2008 20:32

It's called hyperhydrosis and there's a website about it if you do a google search. The bad news is that there's not a cure and most people have to live with it. Maybe it will go as quickly as it came.

You can actually get botox injections to stop the sweating - not sure what the side effects are though.

If you sweat excessively under your arms try an overnight deoderant like Driclor which should help reduce it.

Hi booklover, boy do I know how you feel!! I have been a heavy sweater for as long as I can remember. Anti-perspirants don't work at all for me. A few years ago I heard about the use of Botox to prevent sweating - I had it once for a holiday. It was brilliant, I didn't sweat at all for 6 months! But at £250+ a go, it was a one-off luxury and it's not something I can afford to splash out on. Anyway, a few months ago I discovered a product called PerspiGuard. It's a spray that you put on & rub in, on clean dry armpits, just before you go to bed. Then you're sweat-free for 4-5 days - it is fab!! It's quite pricey (I think, anyway - I don't part with my cash easily!) at about £9 for a small bottle, but it really is worth it and IT WORKS! I don't work for the company who make it BTW! I just love it, and I have to say it has improved my wellbeing no end. Give it a go!

Linden Voss Triple Dry changed my life! Really fantastic for sweaty armpits. Put on at night and wash off in the morning. Do this everyday until sweating under control then as required. Great product, can get in boots for about seven quid.

Many thanks for all your messages. Most people seem to sweat a lot under their armpits and I don't have that problem at all. Do you think I could use any of these products you mentioned on my forehead (like the spray for example?) Botox is not an option unfortunately as we don't have much money at the moment. I also wondered whether anyone knows about homeotherapie, as there might be something I can try. I am willing to try everything!!!!!
Many thanks

I have the same problem Booklover and it is really getting to me.

I sweat loads under my arms, my back, backs of my legs and round my groin area.

I have no idea why and I know I haven't always had this problem, it just seems to have come on in the last couple of years.

I haven't been to my gp as I don't think I'd get very far with her.

I did have my thyroid checked a while ago though and it was apparently fine.

Booklover · 05/11/2008 13:57

Can anyone else help?

I would second getting a thyroid function test from to GP, just to rule it out, as when I had thyroid problems I constantly sweated, and all my make up would fall off my face because it got wet with sweat, it was so embarrassing.
Good luck sorting it out.
