IBS/Period pain - are they interchangeable?

I suspect I have post-infective IBS after a nasty infection over the summer.

However having had horrid bowel -type pains for the lastf ew days, today they are sort of morphing into what feels extremely like period cramps

I mean it could be as we're in the process of weaning off the breast (not that he's stopped, but it's a bit sporadic - for instance he'll feed a lot at night then not much all day etc) but I'm just not sure what is causing the pain.

Have taken Buscopan as I've been prescribed it for the IBS? but it gets prescribed for period pain as well, doesn't it?

I wish I would come on and then I'd know...I think my uterus is retroverted anyway so I always get dodgy stomach issues with period, just to confuse things further!

Thanks

I think they are somehow linked. Though I can't explain how. My sister has really bad ibs and it's always worse when she has her period.

Thanks Shesells...yes I have read that is possible.

I think what I'm really wondering is, could this be my period coming back - I guess will just have to wait and see!

Not sure. I rarely suffer from period pains tbh - sometimes get dull, acheyness. IBS cramps, on the other hand, can be excruciating. More painful than being in labour for me.

Hormone shifts do bring on gut problems, ime. Periods starting up again would do it. Let things settle down, and see what happens?

Yes am going to have to wait and see I think...it could just be things being sore due to the bowel thing, or it could be the other thing. I really hope it's my period actually. Have started better worded thread on bF board!

Thankyou for your help.

BIWI yes I know what you mean about the labour thing...a few weeks ago when it all started I felt like I was having contractions, it was a bit shocking really. But is not as bad as then, thank GOd.
