Black toenail, should I take DH to A&E

Helga80 · 06/10/2008 23:05

DH was at karate tonight and idiot managed to stamp on his big toe.

One side (the inside IYSWIM) of it is now black with what looks like bruising/bleeding under the nail, should I be whisking him off to A&E to have it drilled to release the blood and avoid the nail falling off?

We live in Cardiff so A&E will take the best part of the night and we both have work at 7:30 tomorrow so only want to head of if necessary.

No

ScareyBitchFeast · 06/10/2008 23:08

iit will fall off and one will grow underneath.
a & e unnecessary imo

maidamess · 06/10/2008 23:08

No. The nail will eventually fall off by itself. Not the prettiest thing in the world, but def. not an A &E situation.

Lubyloo · 06/10/2008 23:08

No it's not an emergency.

BreevandercampLGJ · 06/10/2008 23:09

No

No wonder the NHS is on it's knees.

PeaMcLean · 06/10/2008 23:09

Not a problem surely if the nail does fall off. It'll grow back.

I'd leave it. If it hurts in the morning, go then.

(I'm no expert but that's what I'd do. And point at it and go "eeeeew!" at it )

Helga80 · 06/10/2008 23:09

So I'm not being a negletful wife if I leave him to it then .

Have warned him that it will fall off and he seems strangely fancitated with the idea!

No

the nail will fall off no matter what if it's black.

will take ages, though.

not an emergency at all.

Snaf · 06/10/2008 23:09

Er, no. It's not an emergency to have a nail fall off.

minorbirdOnElmstreet · 06/10/2008 23:10

I would say there's no need! But then I'm a runner who has had lots of black toenails and several that have dropped off. (miraculously there is always another one underneath!) Obviously, though if he is in pain from the injury, thats a different story but black toe nails are no biggy! He just won't be able to wear peep toe sandals.

He can always paint the others with Chanel Rouge Noire if it really bothers him.

expatinscotland · 06/10/2008 23:12

that's what i always did, Snaf!

lost many a big toenail to too tight climbing shoes, poorly fitted rental ski boots, wet hiking boots and steep descents on epic hillwalks, etc.

no big deal at all.

maidamess · 06/10/2008 23:12

I lost both mine simultaneously after a 26 mile walk. Yuck.

moondog · 06/10/2008 23:13

A&E???

Are you fucking mad?????

Snaf · 06/10/2008 23:13

TiltingAtWindmills · 06/10/2008 23:13

Does he have any splinters that he could get removed at the same time?
Or perhaps a pimple that needs popping?

Snaf · 06/10/2008 23:14

Perhaps an irritating hangnail, tilting?

ScareyBitchFeast · 06/10/2008 23:14

i dropped the dyson on mine
black toe nail here we come

Snaf · 06/10/2008 23:15

One of mine just fell off, randomly, the other week.

I think there may have been fungus involved

Snaf · 06/10/2008 23:16

I did not go to A&E, I would like to point out.

BreevandercampLGJ · 06/10/2008 23:17

Moondog.

I love you.

moondog · 06/10/2008 23:28

My friend works in A & E.
The stories she tells!
One arse bloke came in with papercuts. She said even after being there 4 hours (pushed to back of queue obv.) he was still there!!

I work for NHS. I want to hang, draw and quarter all time wasters.

ScareyBitchFeast · 06/10/2008 23:33

no, i didnt go either.

can't they just tell time wasters to bog off?

mrshankly · 06/10/2008 23:36

I would get him airlifted
