Tantrums following ? virus, is this a coincidence ?

Hi,
Ds was ill last week with a temp of 38.5 - 41 oC from monday till sunday,no other symptoms apart from sleeping more and wanting to be cuddled.
His temp started coming down on sunday and is now normal, but he still isnt himself, and today he's had 2 massive roll on the floor and scream for half an hour tantrums, something he's never done before.
He's still very irritable a lot of the time and said at supper tonight his hair was hurting. I'm at a loss as to how to react,I ignored the tantrum this evening until the sobs and tears started, but I don't want to be cruel if he's still poorly.

almost definately not a coincidence - dd always does this after she's been ill. I just ignore too (seeing as she doesn't want a cuddle).

Did you give fever reducers. We had a dreadful terible week with ds1 last week (posted on here about it- behaviour getting out of control or something) - and it was a;lmost certainly from withdrawal the sweetners or other additives they put in calpol/nurofen. usually I wouldn't give nurofen as you can only get a sugar free version but I did llast time- never again- he was whacking his head on the kitchen worktop which is always a soign that he's eaten something he shouldn't have

We've had a bout of illness with dd (temperature, much green snot, ear infection, 5-day unspecified vicious-looking rash, etc., followed by another cold). She was a nightmare and didn't even want to be cuddled but just kept pacing up and down crying. The tantrums went as soon as she got better - took at least 3 weeks. She's still trying to assert control over issues like getting dressed and wiping her own nose (not quite 2 yet so she's not so effective...) - but I've learned a few distraction techniques and she's so much better now. It's very hard - I tried my hardest to stay calm and let it play out (not actually ignore her but try and step back and be objective about what she was feeling physically). Then give as much support when she'd calmed down. Very tiring though, so my sympathies.

Thankyou, I hadn't thought about that one, yes he had maximum doses of calpol and nurofen for about five days, we normally have very fresh no additives food and he's only ever had a couple of spoons of calpol before,may help to explain his behaivour, he had a good sleep last night, so fingers crossed for a good day today.
