Really sore swollen back of mouth inbetween tonsils!

You know that thing that hangs down at the back of your mouth between your tonsils, well last night, mine became really (and I mean really) sore and swollen.

It really hurt to swallow, in fact occasionally it got stuck on the top of my tongue and made me gag. It was awful.
I could still drink, although it really hurt. Today, it is still really sore but doesn't feel as swollen.

has this ever happened to anyone else?

I think it is your epiglottis (but I could be completely wrong) & it can have an infection (& it really hurts)

But it does get better on it's own (usually)

It's your uvular. If it's sore and swollen maybe it is infected. BTW mine sometimes feels "dry" and feels like it gets stuck on my tongue-very uncomfortable.
