what to do? dont want any more kids!

I have two gorgeous dd's but thats enough for me and dh. Am on the pill but dont like taking it. What are my options? dont fancy coil or injections. Im 28 am i too young to think about sterilise? or what else is there? My dh wont have snip has a fear of everything medical!!

Not sure what else you could do, I felt the same after DS2, was slightly older though & 28 does seem young to be sterilised although if you really are sure.......... However we decided I had done my bit, periods, pill, pregnacies, giving birth ......so although DH didn't really want to have the snip it was tough really as the other alternative was to sleep in seperate rooms!!!!! It's really not that bad & once it's done you don't need to worry about contraception again- You could try sending him (or going together) to GP he/she will give you all the facts etc & may reassure him that it's not that bad!?

yeh i'll not even get him to docs. his stepdad had it done and he moans bout everything and hates hospitals etc and has assured him its not bad at all its just sore and uncomfortable for a week.

I'm pretty sure that a vasectomy probably isn't as painful as childbirth and the recovery time is quicker

I probably sound really unsympathetic to your dh and I think that perhaps this is because I can envisage my dh being a baby uncomfortable with the idea as well, I am practicing what I am going to say to him when the time comes

A vasectomy really isn't a big deal. Done in half an hour under local anaesthetic, home the same day and a bit sore for a few days afterwards. Female sterilisation is a much bigger deal and more risky. Either procedure is just as effective (1/200 failure rate).

Considering your age, it may be more wise to consider a long-term but reversible contraceptive method. A coil (hormonal or copper) or implant would give you a few years without having to worry about getting pregnant while you think about something more permanent. Injections last for 12 weeks, but some people have problems with weight gain. Most long-term reversible methods are as reliable as sterilisation, without it being final.

If you don't mind the combined pill but are rubbish at remembering to take it daily, you could swap to the patch which is weekly.

I suggest you have a good chat with your dh about his concerns and your ideas. Then go and see your GP (if clued-up about contraception) or family planning clinic.
