I'm definitely not pregnant!

Is it a symptom of something?

stress?
that's when i get it

spacedonkey · 02/03/2005 10:00

i thought it was probably stress, but i'm always stressed out and it doesn't usually manifest as heartburn - weird!

Off the top of my head - have you had back trouble or some other chronic pain condition which has required you to take prescription painkillers, or even bog-standard ibuprofen on a long-term basis SD? I ask because a pal of mine who has a good healthy lifestyle has now developed gastritis because she was on long-term medication for a slipped disc, which is now better.
Presumably it has not been triggered by too much sumptuous Italian food...you did get out there in the end? Did you have a lovely time if so?
Hope you feel better soon.

i find lying flat on my back with my right hand rraised above my head for 10 mins or so relieves it

spacedonkey · 02/03/2005 10:04

aw thanks marina

yes i did get out there, and the food was great, but this indigestion thing has been going on for about a month now, so i don't think it's food-related

not been taking any medication of any kind, i'm physically pretty healthy as far as i know

am worried it's an ulcer

i'll go to my GP if it carries on much longer i think

i made a prog about dyspepsia recently, you can get a transcript from the website. acid reflux (which can cause chronic caugh too) is incredibly common but underdiagnosed.

SeaShells · 02/03/2005 10:07

Chocolate, coffee, alcohol, orange juice, onions, garlic, tomatoes and fatty or spicy foods can all cause heartburn believe it or not!

spacedonkey · 02/03/2005 10:09

thank you bundle and seashells, i'll look into that, also will try to take note of what i've eaten when it happens in case a certain food is triggering it

My mother has this SD (in no other respect does she resemble you I am positive as she is now very like the granny in Giles) and finds Gaviscon helpful.
