Any OT's? Anyone with experience of dealing with amputated fingers and toes?

My friend's mum has been told that she will loose all her toes, half of the fingers on one hand and the tips of her fingers on the other. It is due to the very strong drugs they had to give her while she was in intensive care recently.
The news was not unexpected, but still obviously hard to hear. Where can they look for advice as to how to deal with this - practically and emotionally. Are their aids or prothesis to help with balance and walking? Can you adapt your grip so you can do things like peel potatoes?
Any advice or experience anyone could share would be very welcome.

Thanks for your help and bump tff. It is very early days - she is not out of the woods yet - but I wanted to find out for them what the future might hold...
