Sharp pain in ovary (seems like) when standing quickly and other times

I have pcos and wondered if this could be why? I'm going to make a doctors appointment tomorrow but I thought I'd ask and see if anyone else gets this.

I stood up and had a sharp pain in my right lower abdomen which was so painful I knelt on the floor holding where it hurts and held my breath. Lasted 30 seconds at the most and then I could get up slowly. Usually it goes right away but this was about 20 mins ago and it still aches slightly.

Sometimes it's the other side and it happens if I cough etc sometimes too. Also, I'm on the pill now and I thought that would help but it hasn't at all.

Me too, I get that pain off and on - and whilst I've never been officially diagnosed as having PCOS, I have had a large cyst removed from an ovary and ultra-sound scans show smaller cysts on a regular basis.

That doesn't sound pleasant Can't have been nice for you.

I had an ultrasound that showed the classic string of pearls around my ovaries.

I assume it's the cysts casuing this pain but I thought that would stop when I was on the pill?

I don't know Jodie - I'm not on the pill and haven't been for years. TBH, I just ignore the pain! (S'called burying head in sand!).

I've always assumed it's the/a cyst. I was told these cysts come and go all the time without us knowing anything about them but occasionally, one gets a bit larger or very large, as in the case of the one I had to have removed. So I just put the pain down to one of the blighters growing a bit big and then it shrinks again!

Wouldn't mind knowing what your GP says tomorrow, if you have the time to come back to the thread and just give us a quick update

Well the main reason I went on the pill was in hope of regulating my cycles, I was very irregular before and having lighter periods, less pain. I'm only making the appointment tomorrow but I will update once I've seen them.

I know what you mean about burying your head, I've done that too hehe. Seems to be getting worse lately though so I thought I'd best go and get checked out.

Yes go to the doctors, it does need to be checked out. I'm just wondering if it's a pulled muscle if it happens when you stand up and cough?

JodieG1 · 02/10/2008 09:05

I've got an appointment for next Friday now, I don't think it's a pulled muscle as it happens on both sides and has been going on for a while on and off.

I saw the dr today and had an internal, it was quite painful on one side when she examined me. She couldn't feel anything abnormal but said any masses or cysts would have to be very large for her to be able to feel them. I've been referred for an ultrasound now to see if they can see anything.

I feel quite achy after the examination now though. Hopefully it won't be too long until I get a scan appointment.

Did you ever get a resolution to this, I have PCOS and endometriosis and have been getting the same thing but on my left side.
