OK, so I have name changed for this, as this makes me sound like a total hypochondriac.

I never used to have any period pains or anything like that. In the last 12 months I started getting cramps, usually on the first day of my period, usually at night. Quite painful but I guess not unusual. However, recently I have also started getting them at other times of the month.
I woke up early this morning feeling quite crampy, and also with a bit of lower back pain. It feels like period pain type cramping, not stomach. It's been a few hours now and it has not gone away. I guess I am thinking all sort of terrible things like ovarian or bowel cancer !! I am going to go and see by GP, but please reassure me ! Could it be something like endometriosis??

Please help !

Thanks VB, but I don't think so...

Would visit your GP with a view to getting a referral to a gynae. If the underlying cause is endometriosis it is often only diagnosed through a keyhole surgery op called a laparoscopy.

Bigworrywort · 29/09/2008 11:10

Thanks Attila - will do. Do you have endo? Do these symptoms sound that way?

OP: do you have any other symptoms, such as emptying your bladder very frequently? If there was anything dodgy, I mean on your ovaries, then your monthly cycle would probably would have changed, it did for me.

I had similar symptoms to yours, it was caused by an ovarian cyst, apparently a lot of people have them

Hi bigworrywort. Good luck at the doctors please tell us how you are getting on. I have similar problems. I have always sufferred period pain quite badly but its much reduced since having children. I have just come off the pill (well four months ago) and am getting low grade cramps at other times of the month. I went to the dr a while back but made the mistake of blurting out that I thought I had ovarian cancer (there is a family history of bowel and ovarian cancer) and the doctor just made me feel like a fool saying how rare it is and that it doesn't even need considering. He said that he was likely to come across only one case in his career he didn't even examine me. So whenever I feel a twinge I am still worrying. The cramps aren't so bad at the moment so I am not overly concerned, but its always at the back of my mind.

Good luck xx

Thank you.
Maviscrewit - I know what you mean - I too have found that as soon as you mention the word cancer to a GP, they think you are being ridiculous !!!
Will let you know how I get on...

I went to my gp today as i developed an abnormal skin patch on my breast and was imedietly worried i had breast cnacer, its my biggest health fear.

He was really kind and told me i was right whatever the ciurcumstance to go and see him as eventhough it was harmless i am now worry free.

So i guess what im saying, your not stupid for fearing things but right to seek the advice of a gp to treat you and reassure you.

I hope all goes well

Bigworrywort · 29/09/2008 20:46

Thanks Charlee !

I was thinking about this thread last night.

Afer birth of DD2 I had this. I was sent to hospital for lots of test which all came back saying all was okay.

I went onto Depo for 5 months and this seemed to stop it, somehow.

HTH & Speak to your GP.
xx
