Pain in breast behind nipple - anyone had this?

I have had pain in my breast for a couple of months now. Only one side, and it only hurts if I press it. The pain is sort of behind the nipple, in the inner lower quarter of the breast. There are no lumps or bumps and nothing odd to see. It feels like the kind of tenderness you get when you are pregnant, but I am definitely not.

I know I should go to the docs to get it checked out, but really there is nothing to see or feel. Does anyone have any experience like this?

Thanks.

Definitely get it checked out. Any change to the breast should be seen by a medical professional.

This is from the NHSDirect website, "Any discomfort or pain in one breast that is new and persistent also counts as a significant change." The rest of the article is here.

I really am not trying to panic you, honestly, but feel you need the push to get this checked out - chances are it'll be nothing. I've have various lumps and bumps which have turned out to be nothing, but it's always worth checking out.

LilRedWG. Thank you. I have just booked an appt for Friday. You were right, I did need a push.

Just hoping someone else has had this and can advise. I am wondering if I hurt it and the pain is bruising, as that is what it feels like. I am quite clumsy, so it is possible!

Ta.

I think that you would remember an injury that caused pain for two months.

Let us know how you get on at the GPs.

I've had this. It was inflammation of the cartilige (it has a proper name but I can't remember it)GP gave my NSAIDs, cleared up no problem though I do gert recurrences. Good Luck.

Hmm, well I went. GP was very nice and did a thorough exam. He reckons it is cartilage pain, and it was sore when he pressed down where my ribs joined by breastbone. I came out feeling ok with his explanation.

Now I am home, I am aware that the pain is still behind my nipple as well, and am wondering if it is actually along my ribs too...

However, he found no lumps or anything that concerned him (and nor had I as I do check myself), so I do feel reassured. Thanks for the push LilRedWG, and your post yellowvan.

I will keep an eye out and see if it goes away...
