Mystery Guess the Rash Time!

Ds1 yesterday came home from nursery because he was feeling cold and not well. Within about half an hour of being home he had a temp of about 40C and was very lethargic (but still lucid). It didn't seem to come down with Nurofen, but finally disappeared about 5 hours later and he seemed a lot better and regained his appetite. He has complained of an achy tummy, but we've written it off as milking the illness sympathy (as he's ill, he's getting to watch back to back videos!)

He's been fine and bouncy today, but kept him off just in case - and now I've noticed that he's got a very fine pinprick raised red rash all over his back. Still doesn't seem that ill. Of course, it's now well after the doctor's surgery is closed, and him not being particularly ill doesn't make me want to waste out of hours docs time, but I would like to know what it potentially is to know if ds2 and me (I seem to have missed most of the childhood illnesses!) are likely to get it. Any ideas?

Oh, definitely not chickenpox - totally unlike those spots and besides, he had that last year

Last summer dd had a high temperature and the next day came out in a rash all over her body. We got her checked out by the doctor, and it was a viral rash and they treated it with piriton. Have you done a glass test?

I would phone NHS direct and describe the symptoms to them. Children get so many rashes that its probably harmless but better get it checked out .

ds2 wasn't too well yesterday, was sick in the morning and then a temp on and off all day and some of the night. I noticed a rash on his stomache today when I changed him but he seems completely fine otherwise. I think it is probably viral (with him) he often used to get rashes like this when he was a baby.

It's a weird rash, it's really faint - you can feel it more than see it, iyswim. Reckon I'd be hard pushed to see it through a glass! It's itchy though, because he keeps asking me to rub his back, but not so itchy that he's beside himself with it.

He's had his MMR (the first one - hasn't been called up for the booster yet) though that isn't necessarily a guarantee.

He's perfectly happy, slightly lower appetite maybe but not significantly. Will give NHS Direct a call, if only so I can inform nursery what it was on Monday. If it is rubella then obviously other parents need to be warned.

Feel like I'm wasting their time though when he's acting so normal!

I know what you mean about not wanting to waste their time, I always think that then end up panicking that I've been too complacent. I phoned the docs last week for some advice as dd was being sick, but hesitated as she was running around as normal in between being sick.

DD was exactly like this - not worryingly ill, just not quite right. We were in a hotel so I wasn't sure if the not eating was her being out of routine or her being ill.
