Happened to an old boyfriend of mine. Similar sort of scenario to yours - I can't remember the details as it was a while ago but he mentioned it at work to the company nurse and ended up being sent by ambulance to one of the eye hospitals where they reattached his retina for him.

The floaters can apparently be around for a few days but there is no warning of when it will get worse and but when it does, your eyesight will be gone.

Go now!

(He is is fine by the way)

Are you pregnant?

I got terrible floaters in my eyes when pregnant, I got it checked out and my eyes were fine - it was just one of those weird pregnancy things.

But definitely go and get it checked out.

I had a huge new floater a couple of months ago - I actually thought I was seeing a low flying aircraft at first.

I phoned my opticians who said go straight to a & e. The doctor I eventually saw wasn;t able to do anything other than have a very perfunctory look at my eye and told me to come back the next day and see the opthamologist in the eye clinic. This was a week day so I would be surprised if you could get to see an eye specialist at the weekend. I would definitely get it checked tomorrow though.
