Health prosseionals, anyone in the know, PLEASE try and help me solve this problem on NON ULCER DYSPEPSIA.

This is what my dh has, hes had all the tests going and nothing has been found so this is his diagnosis, problem is hes so ill, he has lost so much weight, from, 15 stone to 11 and a half stone, can barely eat and often throws up when he does eat so he has a diet of mainly cuppa soups and toast, even this comes back up some times, the GP has given him zoton and metoclopramind but these do nothing to help, he has lost quality of life as he constantly feels ill, please can anyone shed some light on what we can do?

I am going through gastric problems myself at the moment so do sympathise.Think you need to be forceful with your GP and insist on a scan if he hasnt had one already.Has he been tested for gallstones or had blood tests as mine revealed that I have H pylori a bacterial infection which has given me pain for months .I have vomited after eating too and had to be careful about eating and have lost a stone in weight as a result.Worth looking into.Please be insistent about a reveral though as my experience is GPs are useless. I have gone through months of pain etc before I was diagnosed and can only see light at the end of the tunnel now.Good luck x

hi sally, yes my dh tested positive for hpylori, but he had the eradication treatment and is now clear, hes had camera up and down and alos a barium swallow test done, nothing found but a slightly dialated duodenum which no one seems bothered about, i dont see where we are supposed to go from now tbh

Omeprazole might work better, it's a proton pump inhibiter so reduces the amount of stomach acid produced. Metaclopriamide is normally good at preventing vomiting. I would get another appointment with the gastroenterologist.

Your DH really need to be insistant with the GP about how ill he continues to be. He needs to be seen again, urgently, by a gastroenterologist.

Zoton (lansoprazole) is the same as omeprazole and metoclopramide promotes gastric emptying - so the medication is logical for the symptoms you have described. However it isn't working so he needs to go back and be seen again.

thanks for the replies everyone, he has a follow up with the gastro consultant on the 25th of this month, but i dont think he will do anything for us tbh, there are no more tests dh can have (is there?) and everyone seems stumped, its so frustrating.

has he been tested for coeliac??

Does he have any other medical problems? e.g. diabetes

yep he has, he doesnt have it

no hes perfectly healthy in every other way

Has he had an endoscopy yet?

what mg of the zoton is he on? I had a similar thing (but they found some things on my endoscopy that go some way to explaining it) and am now on 40mg of omeprazole daily which seems to be helping. Maybe his dose needs upping?

Also, I find with the zoton/omeprazole/lansoprazole that it takes a week or so for it to really be effective and what helps the most is regular but small meals in the meantime.

I think when you have got into the habit ofbeing sick like that, it can take your tummy ages to recover. It certainly does with mine. Howlong has he been this way?

(also did they check out his liver if he has nausea problems)

WP yes hes had a endoscope and a colonoscopy
FIS, yep liver checked and thyroid etc etc, hes on 30mg a day of zoton and hes been this way for about 7/8 years, but recently its becoming reslly bad

I don't know. How odd for him. There was a story I read (may have been on here, may have been in a magazine) about how someone had permanent tummy problems like this and they ended up on antidepressants notbecause they were depressed butbecause 'something' had gone awry in their nervous system and was setting them off being sick all the time(because apparently there are a lot ofnerves in thatarea). Don't know how common that is - have a feeling it's quite rare. The antids sorted it out for some reason though!

he doesn't get migraines or ear problems oranythinglikethat?

duodenum and pancreas are close to each other and vomitting can be linked to low pancreatic function (rejecting food that body can't digest), if he vomits after eating carbs, then best have pancreas checked

FIS, have just spoke to dh and he did say he getting more migraines recently and he does have ear pain apparently, could this be linked?

sorry to barge in, but if he takes sth to speed up gastric emptying (bear in mind that it will be food that hasn't been fully digested), the it's quite likely that migraines are linked to his digetive system struggling with not quite digested food (not a good idea to use them long-term, as he will not be gettng all the nutrients)

Far better to investigate what enzymes to supplement if something is malfunctioning or at least find out what enzymes he is not producing. You could try and work out what makes him particularly ill

get him to mention the migraines and ear problems to the doc. There are all sorts of things linked to that that could be making him ill.
