Has anyone got any tips for someone on crutches with a non-weight bearing cast?

So far I have managed to get a cup of tea from the kitchen by putting a tray on the floor, mug on tray and pushing tray in front of me with my crutch. I have also put a bag on the handle of the crutch and use it carry essential things around (chocolate, mobile phone, house phone etc.). Has anyone else got any tips to try to make life easier around the house? I'm really struggling to move around on the crutches let alone try to do things like make a sandwich, feed the cats etc.

An old fashioned tea trolley to move food from room to room.

Childrens backpack for essential items.

Put a chair in the kitchen so you can sit on it and reach down to floor for cats bowls without overbalancing.

Sandwiches in a lunchbox in the backpack.

You will get really good on the crutches really quickly, within about 2 days you will wonder what the problem was

Trolley would be good. Didn't have one of those. I've just been given a new weight-bearing cast but last week I had your kind. Total PITA. Actually I cheated quite a bit and used one crutch sometimes. You do get a bit more used to it after a while.

Yes a trolley would be good ,bet you could get one from freecycle .

Backpack - excellent idea thank you I will get DP to hunt me one out. That would be much easier than hanging a bag off my crutch handle.

Will have a look around for a trolley.

OrmIrian I agree it is a total PITA, I am really hoping I will be more mobile one the proper cast is on.

I have had crutches since yesterday and am not improving at all. One cat is terrified of me when using them. God knows how people manage when having DC's to look after, we're still at the trying for our first stage.
