2 year old complaining of legs hurting - help!

DD2 2 yo keeps saying "really really hurt mummy" and pointing to her feet. Sometimes she points to her knee, sometimes to her feet. She won't let me put socks on her, or shoes. This has been going on for a couple of days, and she has been whinging a lot. I can't see anything obvious on her feet, and can't get a docs appointment. She has had a virus flu/cold/cough thingy and wondered if she's just got the "aches" from that! What do you think? I don't know what to do. DH is away - why do these things always happen when they're away? There's no swelling, no blisters etc. She wouldn't stand up earlier. The only thing that keeps her quiet is sitting in her pushchair watching tweenies, so she's been doing that for the last hour, though she seems happy enough now.

Sounds strange to me although is it when she's been sat for a long time or in bed because she may have pins and needles in them - just thinking if it hurts for a bit then she's OK? My ds had this a few times at 18m/2yrs - he'd get out of bed and be limping and it frightened me to death till I realised what it was!

Otherwise I'd def get a doctors appt.

does she have bright red cheeks? its just that my DD is recovering from slapped cheek syndrome and sore joints is one of the symptoms, its perfectly harmless virsus

when my brother was younger he had this, went to the dr who said it was 'growing pains' (he was at school tho, so he was almost 5)

it just went away on its own

maybe you should go and see a podiatrist, they deal with feet, legs, posture etc, and could maybe spot something. im sure you can get referrals on the nhs

Don't think its pins and needles, as not always when she has been in one place for a while. Really don't know what it could be.

It could be a hangover from the lurgy.

On the other hand, is she getting a reaction from you when she says it ? Thereby learning poorly legs equal a cuddle.

I only ask because I have a friend and her little man was about 2.5 and complained of being tired all the time and wanting cuddles. Her DH was away Monday to Friday for months on end and we soon worked out, that her DS had worked out that any reference to being tired, or needing a cuddle, provoked a reaction, thereby producing the extra cuddles he wasn't getting from Daddy. She stopped paying any real attention to the announcements and they stopped after a few days.

LGJ - I know what you mean, but I don't think that is the case here - there's definitely real pain there, with real tears because of it...

A few months ago my 4 year old compained his legs hurt, he was limping quite badly and couldnt even get out of the bath. I went to the doctors and she said it is probably a cold in one of his joints but she sent be for a scan. It took weeks to come through and by then he was totally fine. I think this could be something similar, but if it doesnt go away by next week Id go to the doctors.

Does she get better if you dose her with Calpol? (always a sign that there's a real problem to start with)

Gave her kids nurofen yesterday, which seemed to help. She is now refusing to eat or drink, so looking more likely to be associated with that.

Poor lamb, I hope she is feeling better soon. I would take her to the doc and see if they've got an suggestions.

yeah really mystified. On waiting list for a cancellation today so fingers crossed. Very unusual for her to actually eat nothing at all. She was off her food last week with this virus, but even then she nibbled on stuff. Now its just flat refusal. Am a bit worried, i must say..
