DP has just chopped the tip of his finger off <boak>

He was using one of those V Slicer things without the safety guard. It's only the very tip, so not much. Does he need medical attention? He says it's not really bleeding and he doesn't need to get it looked at, but that's what he always says. Any advice? TIA

I did the same thing a few years ago. Got it sewn back on (after a 5 hour wait) at A&E. Mine bled lots though!

(mine was a fair sized chunk out the side, which was just hanging on still attached, which might explain the more bleeding if your dh's really is only just the tip)

Sorry, nothing beats the thread where a MN'ers dh had a worm in his leg although I do appreciate there would probably be a lot of blood involved !

Get down to A & E preferrably with finger tip and hand wrapped in cooling damp cloth to stem the flow of blood.

It's not bleeding much at all really, there's a bit under the plaster but it's not 'flowing' as such. It's basically quite a small dent in the end of his finger. FioFio That is disgusting! Thanks for all of your help.

Re the damp towel, don't get the chopped off bit wet, it will start to break down the tissue at the end of the finger and make it more difficult to reattach. Put it in a plastic bag so it is sealed and then in something cold like a bag of peas (this will preserve the skin). Make a note of the time it was chopped off and get down to A&E

Oh well, you know for next time then, typical bloke eh? Doest he get cold and then call it flu

My dh did this a couple of weeks ago. (The blood!) Quite a big bit including most of nail.

He retrieved the cut off bit and we hot footed it to a&e, but they didn't re-attach it. So our 4 hours there was a waste of time.

He has thrown the bit of finger away

Well, with my dh they cleaned it and bandaged it quite heavily. Be warned - it bled regularly for about 2 weeks whenever he knocked it.

He was given a tetanus and 2 lots of anti-b's though, so your dh may need to go to a&e if his tetanus is not up to date. (He didn't take the anti-b's)

DP is currently rolling his eyes and telling me it's only a cut. I don't think I'm going to be able to get him to have a tetanus although his is probably not up to date.
