Oh God,I'm panicking now

I've just found out that old vinyl tiles can ontain asbestos & shouldn't be moved or damaged.Several months ago I started removing the vinyl tiles on our bathroom floor & had to break them up to remove them.A few bits proved hard to budge,so are still stuck down.Now I'm terrified that I've exposed the whole family to asbestos.I didn't take any precautions regarding dust ect,as I'd no idea that tiles could contain anything dangerous.Now I don't know what to do,I just feel sick & shaky.What do I do now-if there is any damage,it is already done.

FG, I don't have any practical advice for you as I know nothing of asbestos, however I am willing to bet that all will be ok.
The only thing I could suggest is maybe speak to your GP, if they cannot help you themselves maybe they can point you in the right direction.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will be along soon.

Thanks DustyTV.I emailed a company who are experts on this kind of thing & they have reassured me that it is rare & wouldn't present any danger anyway.I'm so relieved.

I did exactly the same thing Furios. Exactly the same thing about a year ago in my kitchen.

Hi Daddycool,the website was called Asbestoswatchdog & their background seems to be based on preventing people being ripped off by companies who scare people into having expensive work done which isn't always nessesary.

The reply I got said 'You have no need to be concerned,this class of asbestos material is very common and has no measurable risk to your health.It is improbable that you did have asbestos containing lino/vinyl as it is only in approx 10% of lino pre 1980,but in any case,you can stop worrying.I hope this helps.'

As for me,well I mentioned it to my parents,who announced that it was a lot of fuss over nothing & that my dad made my mum an ironing board out of asbestos years ago & that they were still ok.They were still using it when I was a small child! Great.Now I'm worried about that.
