Can my 4 week old catch my sore throat?

He is a robust chap (11lb 6) and doesn't seem to have been adversely affected by the sore throat that has been creeping up on my for a couple of days. Its now so painful that I can hardly speak. Should I be wearing a face mask as my Mother advises? Or would he have got it by now if he was going to? I would be so grateful for your thoughts.

don't know about the face mask, but he will catch your throat but probably not as severely.

Are you breastfeeding, if you are then you are passing on your immunities to him.

poor you!

my dd had a terrible cold when she was only 5 wks old, but it only lasted 2 days, thankfully.

its good he is robust, he will probably shake it off.

keep him cosy and put vicks vapo rub on a wet flannel over the radiators if you think he is bunged up too.

at least, it helped my dd

get well soon

My ds2 caught the cold that the family had when he was only 8 days old and yes I was breastfeeding him. I think if your ds is going to catch it, he will IYSWIM, there aren't really any precautions you can take. Hope he doesn't though!

Many thanks for all your help. He seems to have passed unscathed and I am getting better now - though the quantity of spit up he is producing at the moment makes me wonder if he is getting any nutrition at all!

Very best wishes and thanks again

Sophie
