Pregnancy after vasectomy................how common is it?

Just wondering if anyone on here has any experience of this, and if so how long after the vasectomy did you get pregnant. I am trying to convince myself I'm not pregnant, but have several symptoms and it's too early to do a test.

The failure rate is quoted as 1 in 200.

A vasectomy can reverse several years after the initial operation, so never rule out the possibility of pregnancy.

A friend of mine ended up with dc number 5 because of a botched vasectomy. Happened about a year after the op.

I am pregnant with DC3 - 18 months after DH had the snip. He didn't go to get his test results though.

I had several symptoms before testing but knew deep down that I was even though I knew that DH had had it done.

Also as Blondie says it is v important to get test results. Some men apparently have to have the procedure done again. Others are fertile for months and months after the procedure. It is no good assuming (this happened on EEnders!) that you are ok after a few weeks/months.

emma are you still around? My dh was told by the surgeon that he had a newer procedure that was cauterising rather than "snipping" - do you know anything about that? Apparently far less chance of spontaneous reversal. Also his test results are absolutely clear now.

There is still a risk of it reversing even with cautery, but yes, the risk is lower (I don't know the exact figures, sorry).

A good point about remembering to get test results- you need 2 clear samples before you get the green light.

Thanks for replies. Dp had op about 11 years ago and had all clear after 2 samples after the op. We have only been together about 5 months and living together for a few weeks and have been very "active" so perhaps its just my hormones. I feel like i'm pre menstrual its just the symptoms that I usually get before I'm due on start about 5 days before and this month they started just after mid cycle which is very unusual for me. Also I tend to retain water when I'm pre menstrual but am peeing a lot at the moment, could all just be coincidence though.
