DD referred due to extra crease in leg - any experiences?

DD had her 9-12 month review today, and has been referred due to having an extra crease in her right thigh. I have heard it is quite common, but I'm worried as I noticed the other day that her trousers were different lengths on each leg. Any experiences please? TIA.

I seem to remember my friend going through this with her dd at the same age. She was breech and had an extra creese and they found that she had 'clicky hip' iirc.

She was put in a cast for a little over a month and that sorted out whatever issue there was.

She is 3 now and her hips and legs are perfectly normal.

Thanks JC, that helped a bit. I've never noticed myself so it was a bit of a shock when HV mentioned it. DD was a normal delivery and they've never mentioned a clicky hip, can they just appear? Glad to know your friend's dd is fine now.

DD had this and one of her hips slopes at a slightly different angle--but it was not serious enough for corrective surgery. So in her case it's not the leg being shorter, it's the hip being slightly higher on one side, if that makes sense.

My friends DS had this. It was absolutely nothing. Just an extra crease.

I took DD2 to the GP about the extra crease. We got referred for a US scan (a week later and she'd have needed an X-Ray as too old for US scan). She was fine. The nurse said that in 5 years she'd been there she only knew a couple of cases where there had been something wrong and the only pointer was the extra crease.

I've just had the same with ds2 - we were referred to a consultant and had a US scan. Nothing wrong at all, just uneven creases.

The consultant said that it's rare to have a hip problem without any family history but sent us for the scan as ds2 was breech until about 38 weeks.

I'm sure your dd will be fine too.

My DD was referred too (HV, to GP, then to consultant), for having an extra crease in her leg - paediatrician rolled his eyes and said the extra crease is a very outdated test, and shouldn't be referred on its own. But as we were there he sent her for a scan and all was fine - she was 10mths so the ultrasound didn't show enough detail so she had an X-ray too.

But he also said that if there is a problem, it is much, much better to get it picked up now as it can be corrected by using a cast (as JoanC said), whereas when they are older they have to have surgery which isn't as effective.

My DD has asymmetrical creases and at almost 12mths is not crawling and will not support her weight on her legs. HV has referred her to be checked for hip dysplasia. Have already done separate HD thread but wondered if any of the above where tests were clear had also had a no crawling/standing symptom??? Am worried sick!

My ds2 not crawling and is 11mnths. Normal hips.

My DD was recently referred to GP after HV noticed extra crease. GP checked her range of movement which he said seemed to be normal. I was given the options of being referred for X-ray to confirm no problems but GP said I would have to consider radiation exposure or to just wait and see and if I become aware of any problems to go back and she can be referred for X-ray. I went for 2nd option and am just keeping an eye on things. GP stated once she starts crawling/walking any problems are likely to become apparent then.

DD was referred for this very reason, when got to see GP he couldn't see anything wrong at all.
