Im having a brain and upper spine MRI next week.
Have had one before but didnt have the coil in then.
They have sent me a questionnaire about metalwork and stuff but nothing about coils.

Anyone know?

Call them and ask just to be sure

Ooh - my aunt had an mri booked recently to check out a lump on her thumb. It wasn't until she got there that they asked about metalwork.

Luckily for her they did. She had surgery for an aneurysm in her brain and they had used a clip to fix it.

So they cancelled MRI.

yes you can

but put it on the form anyway; there should be a q about implants etc

i will ring tomorrow I think then tell them when I go.

Thanks

I work in Radiology, a mirena is fine as long as it's been "in" for more than 6 weeks.

Its completely safe in MRI - its entirely plastic, and theres even some research papers on how best to show it on MRI

thegrowlygus · 24/07/2008 20:44

Is absolutely fine because it isn't metal. It is made of plastic.

Plus DH is a neuro radiologist and says it is fine - even if not been in for 6 weeks.

If you are having it done in cambridge it might be him looking at the scan!

mosschops30 · 24/07/2008 20:47

oh thats great thanks. Its been in for 3 years so fine. (maybe even coming out soon )
Im having it done in Cardiff. Im nervous even though Ive had it done before.

Ooooh - he wondered about applying for a job in Cardiff but didn't. So. That is terribly helpful to know isn't it?!!

pinkbubble · 24/07/2008 20:49

Yes you can.

I have had 2 MRI scans, I just let them know when I had it done.

mosschops30 · 24/07/2008 20:52

lol growlygus, the neuroradiologist last time wouldnt tell me what was on the scan even though i knew it was something because i knew the neurosurgeon looking at it. He didnt know I was staff there.
In the end my boss gave me my results!
