starting to take pill, first day of period....

Hi. I am waiting for my period to start so I can start taking the pill. I thought that yesterday I had come on as I had a bit of bleeding, so in the evening I took the pill. Today though I have no bleeding and not sure if I should carry on taking it as instructions say take on first day of period.

If you start it on a day that is not the first day of your period, it means you are not protected against pg for 7 days.
If you take it on the first day, you are protected immediately.

I am presuming this is the combined pill?

whats the combined pill?!!!!! Its the one you take for 21 days and then break for 7 to have a period. Is that all, not covered for 7 days, thats no problem. I thought it would mess up my cycle if I took it before my period.
