DD has waxy ears and loss of hearing

The Dr didn't mention syringing but wanted to use a vacumm type thing to get the wax out. Probably would have been okay had DD not screamed the place down when he showed her the imstrument!
Trouble is, she has to go back in 3 weeks and if she doesn't let him do it, he will put her to sleep for the procedure.

We have been using drops that the Dr gave us for the past week, not sure if they have had any effect or not. She is still shouting alot so I am not convinced anything has changed.

I have been putting the drops in, massaging the ear for about 5 minutes and then putting some cotton wool to absorb it. DD did push the cotton wool deep into her ear and I had to retrieve it with tweezers!

How old is your DD? Could you not try bribary and/ or distraction. Ie. Get out a brand new comic that she has never seen before and read it to her while the DR removes the wax.

DON'T put cotton wool in her ear. I had a blocked ear and was using the drops, couldn't get it syringed as was going away for a few days. When I ame back I got them syringed (the machine was probably the same thing I had). The nurse as horrified to learn that the drops recommended putting cotton wool in to stop the drops falling out. I kept cotton wool in for an hour after drops for just under 2 weeks and the nurse pulled a string of it out of my ear, it was at least 4 inches long. She said nobody should ever use it because of the fibres falling into the eardrum.

Oh, I didn't know I shouldn't use the cottonwool as like you said, it says on the drops that I should. At least I know now!

She is 9 but tbh, she is a big wimp, almost as big a wimp as me

I have to start the drops again on the 7th Aug and keep using them until her appt which is the following week. I will use them and not use cottonwool. I will also prepare her for having her ears vacummed by bribery if need be. She is adamant that she does not want to be put to sleep. She knows our dog got put to sleep and he never came back

My ear only took about 15 seconds to do, it's a bit uncomfortable, but not sore. Good luck!

Last time this happened to my ds the nurse actually said warm olive oil can work just as well if not better

could you use a hopi ear candle for her?

I am going to try the hopi ear candle on her, I assume its okay to use on kids?
I have a Holland and Barrett near me, will check there to see if they stock them. That would be quicker than ordering online.
