Hate Cerazette, can't put up with this constant bleeding anymore, so think I am going to have to come off it, but what is a good alternative?

Can't cope with anymore bloody bleeding! Finished bleeding this time last week, had a week off, then this morning I wake up to heavy bleeding again!
Been on this pill for 9 months now, and enough is enough. I am going to have to come off it, but really don't know what contraception I am going to use instead. Don't really want to use the combined pill & heard bad reports about the injection.
What contraception can you recommend?

Go back to GP or family planning/womens' health clinic and ask for a different pill. I had problems on the pill and was advised by GP to try different ones until I found one that was ok - there are lots of different ones out there and the GP should be able to advise.
I don't have any experience of combined pill or injection. Tried 2 types of coil but stopped both due to heavy bleeding as well.

I know loads will disagree but I am on the mirena coil and it works for me, no bleeding no side affects.

i've got a mirena too and haven't had a period since 1993. Mirena is both a coil and a hormone treatment - it is impregnated with progesterone so gives a nice steady dose that often stops periods completely. first 6 weeks can be a bit of a pain (spotting etc) but after that is is just HEAVEN!

Am tempted by the coil, but am a little scared of having it fitted as heard it can be pretty painful. Also worried that knowing my luck, as I have had bleeding problems on the mini pill (which is of course progesterone only), I will have similar problems with the coil.

No periods would be heaven!

I had bleeding every 2 weeks with 2 of the mini-pills and constant spotting with the injection. Cerazette has worked well for me as I havent had a period for 10 months or so. Try a different mini-pill - just because one doesnt suit you doesnt mean that another wont suit you too. There are 4 groups of mini-pills so you could try one from another group to see if you get better results.

My sister had no periods for years while taking Cerazette, but it is just my bloody luck to have the opposite problem!!

I am having a mirena coil fitted next week to stop my heavy periods, do you know why your periods are heavy? do you have fibriods?

It is not so much that they are heavier than normal, just happening too often!
Apparently irregular bleeding is quite a common side effect with this pill, but having another period a week after the last, is just beyond a joke! Very fed up of not knowing where I am with it.

hi, i had similar trouble with mini pill. i was on cerazette, and bled continuously for 3 months. then switched to micronor and bled every 2 weeks, and got the most awful tiredness (absolute exhaustion).

gp suggested coil and have been on mirena since march this year. at first i had normal periods, just lighter than my usual, and shorter. now i haven't had a period for 8wks, am just having the occasional day of very light spotting.

as other posters suggested you could try another group of mini pills.
for me the coil seems to be the solution. fitting was not a nice experience, but once it is in, it is in. and having light/no periods is well worth those couple of minutes of discomfort!

How horrible was the fitting of the coil? Feeling a bit of a wuss at the thought of the pain!

Be warned: if you go to a family planning cilnic they will so hard-sell you the Mirena and they can be reluctant to remove the coil once it's in there, instead fobbing your off with 'it'll settle'.

Like you, I bled constantly on Cerazette.

So there is NO way I'd go for a Mirena.

If I could take the combined pill, I'd definitely go that route! Or the contraceptive patch.

I am a terrible coward....I'll be honest, having the mirena fitted was not pleasant but its over in a couple of seconds....kinda like an injection and then its (well for me) no pain, no clots, ne bleeding - it is so worth it....and you cant be any more cowardy custard than me I assure you

I have never heard of the patch - it wasn't one of the options given to me. Might have to look into that.

Bloody contraception is a pain in the arse! I had 5 years of not having to worry as ex H had had a vasectomy, & cerazette is the only pill I have tried since being with my new DP.
When I went to see the family planning nurse, she made all other methods sound so unappealling that I came away with more Cerazette.
