Hideous nappy rash - molars or strawberries?

Can anyone help me sort out my DD's nappy rash? She 's in so much pain and is constantly scratching her fangita. Its very raw and extremely red. Have given up with sudocrem and have been using cream that I was recommended at pharmacy by it hasn't helped. DD is 14 m and has all 4 molars coming through, so presume thats the reason for it, although she has been eating a lot of fruit recently, especially strawberries. Could that have triggered this kind of reaction? If its the latter I feel like a very bad mum..

No I don't think it's the strawberries, they are more of an allergy trigger.

I would most certainly say it's the teeth.

Poor little mite, I think it's just a case of giving her loads of water to make her wee less concentrated and thats it really, I'm suprised Sudocrem hasn't helped I'd consider that miracle cream along with Bepanthen

What was the cream the pharmacist recommended? Could it have been metanium (which is usually very good) or clotrimazole?

The nappy rash mie have had with teething has always only lasted 24hrs - so may not simply be the teeth.

It may be thrush - that is the only time that nappy rash has persisted beyond a couple of days in our house. For that you need the clotrimazole cream - if that is not what you have got.

If you have got clotrimazole then try metanium in between times as well as it is very good at healing.

Obviously plain water and cotton wool instead of wipes and a bit of bare bum time will all help.

It might be thrush. My DS had it once and it caused the worst nappy rash ever. I'd take her to the GP just to rule that out (or you can get cream over the counter at the chemist but obviously you have to pay)

I third thrush.

If you close your eyes and feel the nappy rash very veeery carefully, if you can feel raised bumps, then tis thrush.

You can get some canestan for a baby from the pharmacist over the counter and it will be noticeably better within a day.

Its an Aussie brand called Daktozin. Mostly made up of zinc oxide.
I'm seeing a nurse tomorrow for a general check up so will show her DD's rash. Sounds like it could be thrush as it really is horrific.

Squonk its very dry now and the skins beginning to break too. Is that also a sign of thrush?

Sudocreme is Zin Oxide IIRC.

I think you should get Clotrimazole (cheaper than canestan but same thing) and metanium.

Cotrimazole is used 3 times a day, use the metanium in between.

Hang on - I have just checked Daktozin is an anti-fungal so should treat thrush.

In that case i may be tempted to see GP if that is not working. The other thing we have had in our house is a bacterial infection which is actually made worse by anti-fungals.

That sounds like it might be - my DS bled in the end.
