when you have a head cold and how long after?

I ask because I think I am a wimp - I ususlly feel crap for about 10 days altogether.

You are lucky then.
Usually 3 weeks, but used to be 6 before I gave up smoking.

10 days is normal isn't it? someone told me 3 days, but thats a myth.

If it's a 'man cold' probably at least a fortnight, possibly dragging on for a month.

Less silly though, I reckon the aftermath of a cold does last a good week. I'm used squashing down the crap feeling as I work for myself and work contacts never understand that you're ill!
