I have been ill since Friday with some sort of whoozy fluey temperature thing, my eyes hurt and the bit above my cheeks, below my eyes were swollen as well. Anway I felt much better yesterday and today but a bit dizzy. I didn't think anything of it until I decided to go to the retail park this evening with a friend to get out of the house as i've been stuck in all weekend. We were in M&S Bra dept and she was taking ages and I was feeling really dizzy and really sick and had to wait in the car. Even when sitting down I feel dizzy and the world looks somewhat surreal, my eyes are heavy one ear feels blocked and everytime I turn my head everything moves infact everything is a bit strange when I don't turn my head. I also had ringing in my ears over the weekend. How long will this last and what should I do?

See your GP. Dh had this and it was awful.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 07/07/2008 23:23

Yuk- I've had this and it is horrible, like roomspins without the benefit of alcohol!! If I remember rightly mine was thought to be viral and I was told to lie down and take paracetamol/ fluids (the usual solution!) But you'd probably best see your GP first to rule out anything else. Hope you feel better soon!

Steaming can help: get a bowl of boiling water and inhale (putting a towel over your head) - it's even better if you bung a few drops of olbas oil in the water.

God yes, I had viral vertigo which is much the same, and awful - so you have my sympathy. As mine was viral, doctor couldn't treat it but I did at least have a proper diagnosis to tell work.

I couldn't move for a week, and had to draft in help with the girls as I simply could not do a thing. My neighbour had them for a day after she happened to knock on the door on my first very bad day and she ended up stuck with them for the day

It DID pass all by itself, and hasn't come back if that's any comfort. Worse illness I have ever had though for being so completely debilitating.

edam · 07/07/2008 23:25

Oh, poor you. Do see the GP - mine prescribed me some tablets that really helped. Act on the fluid balance in your middle ear or something (Can't remember what they were called, though, sorry.)

TY will ring my gp tommorrow and see what he says I can't go as I don't drive and can't walk that far. It's really horrible i'm just glad i'd read about it on here first otherwise i'd be even more freaked out. Some of your experiences sound much worse I hope mine doesn't get that abd I have baby ds2 and toddler ds 1 all day, luckily i've sorted the school run for dd tommorrow as I don't think i'd be able to cope!

wow, I had this last week - just couldn't stand upright - even lying down I was falling over head first - had to keep holding on to things - even held my 4yo's hand coming up the stairs as I was convinced I was in some kind of Escher painting! It was surreal!!

I lay down on my side eventually and took paracetamol and slept for a few hours, never thought of going to the GP!! Had a hot cuppa as well as my throat was sore.

Have a click in my ear now when I open my jaw - probably fluid in my Eustachian tube. But apart from that I'm fine now, don't feel dizzy at all.
Take it easy and look after yourself.

Ledodgy · 07/07/2008 23:36

Ty that is it exactly everything seems surreal like i'm on drugs or something.

I've had it too Ledodgy -espeicially the blocked ear and a weird feeling like butterflies in my tummy which makes me feel a bit sick ( unfortunately haven't lost my appetite )

Oooo, and I felt soooo tired. Bonecrushingly so.

DS had it too and a couple of friends from school.
Dh had the tummy thing but in him it just manifested itself as massive farts.

it's a weird one.

hope you are feeling better soon. x

Thanks I couldn't get an appointment with dr after 6pm today which is the only time I could go when dp is able to take me so he's ringing me after evening surgery instead.
