DD keeps grabbing herself and says her bottom is sore after a wee - urine infection??

My DD is 2.10. She has been potty trained for a couple of months. She has recently started refusing to tell me when she needs a week, grabbing herself after she's been and saying her bottom is sore. She's also been wetting herself. I've been ignoring it, because it coincided with a period of contrariness and general naughtiness and I thought it was all part of that - I'm now beginning to wonder though, could she have a UTI? should I take her to the Gp? If so, do I just take a urine sample along with me? Any and all advice much appreciated

take her to the gp - they'll dip it and test.
i always go and get a sample pot thingy from the receptionist the day before the appointment if it's for a kid who's unlikely to be able to wee on demand. sometimes they prefer a sample from first thing in the morning.

I would say get test for sure. Mine get contrary when they're sickening for something too. UTI's can really make you feel like crap.
Hope all ok. x

Thanks, I think I will take her tomorrow to put my mind at rest, if nothing else.

Just gone through this with one of mine.

I took a early morning sample in a very clean, dry jam jar.

Apparently they can have it for a while before it starts to hurt when they wee - the doc told me the first symptoms are a general uncharacteristic naughtiness and stroppiness. DD had it for 3 weeks before she complained it hurt when she weed

The doc should dip the sample to test for the presence of various things and he should be able to tell from that if she has an infection. Hopefully he'll give you some ABs for it there and then. I friend of mines doc wouldn't prescribe ABs until the she had the results of microbiological tests on the urine - that took a couple of days and in that time the infection had got a lot worse.

hope it clears up soon.

My dd fell onto cross bar of her bike and couldn't /wouldn't pee for a while due to pain. Took me a while to work out what it was. She was holding back and then wetting herself, and crying with pain. It all healed fine. It was the tiniest little nick, but it must have really hurt when she weed.

Thanks everyone. The GP dipped her wee and found no infection, but ketones (sp?). She is sending it off to be tested though and I need to call them on Friday. She also examined her and said that she may have a slight fungal infection, or possibly thrush, but that it should clear up by itself.

FFF, my DD aged 7 often complains of this, she has been checked over and had MSU's sent on numerous occasions without ever showing anything on the tests. We eventually realised that it occurs mainly after she has been drinking lots of fresh orange juice (loves the stuff), we cut this down and touch wood hasn't complained since.
