HI Princess
I grew up in Abingdon, my family goes to the Malthouse - round the back of the library in town. Years since I've been there, long since moved away, but my mum, dad, sister etc... all still there and very happy.
Dr Thorne was my doctor, he was excellent, not sure about the ladies, could find out if you like!!

PrincessPeaHead · 07/07/2008 14:52

Aha!
Thank you doggy. That is on my shortlist of possibles - easy to find out what surgeries are in a town, impossible to find out if they are any good! V helpful thanks.

Anyone else have a view? Ta

PrincessPeaHead · 07/07/2008 14:55

you're welcome, can ask my mum for other opinions if you like...

LaylaandSethsmum · 07/07/2008 14:57

You might need to find out which ones will take you depending on where you live, they may not cover the same areas even though they are geographically close to each other. That may reduce the list of choices for you!

PrincessPeaHead · 07/07/2008 14:59

yes I have a list of possible surgeries, oddly there are about 6 that will take me based on address... and all are accepting new patients... just trying to choose one. with 4 kids and a husband with a dodgy chest I do tend to use them a bit and want a good practice...

I used to go to the one on Stert St, I believe it's called Abingdon Surgery (imaginatively).

I think they have 1 or 2 part-time female drs, my doctor was Dr Crossley (male) who was very nice. Also seemed to know what he was doing, which I always find a plus...

Ready4anotherCoffee · 07/07/2008 15:10

Hi Princess, I am with Marcham Rd. I've always found them to be good, plus they are next to my second home - the MIU

Have always found Smiths chemist in town to be good, they don't tell me to come back in half a hour for something really basic.

Where are you - fancy meeting up?

Ready4anotherCoffee · 07/07/2008 15:11

Forgot to say Dr K trivedi is v nice. ditto her dh who alternates days!

Several other nice ladies too.

PrincessPeaHead · 07/07/2008 15:16

Ooh thank you everyone!
So generally they sound good - no local knowledge of ones to avoid? Where I currently live there are 2 surgeries - one excellent and one dire. Sounds like Abingdon has generally good ones.

What's the MIU ready4anothercoffee? (Can you tell I haven't moved there yet..)

Moving to a village outside Abingdon at the end of August, so meet ups will have to wait until the autumn...

MIU = minor injuries unit

genrally they are good, everybody has their preferances.

4got to say, marcham rd lets you book appts in advance, none of that phoning on the morning nonsense! Not sure about the others...

JackieNo · 07/07/2008 15:41

Marcham Road one here too - always been helpful, and the Minor Injuries unit v useful. Though you don't have to be registered at Marcham Road to go there.

PrincessPeaHead · 07/07/2008 17:24

Thank you very much!
