Am not 100% sure but did seem like my poo had red blood in it...I don't have piles as I don't find blood on the tissue, it seems to be in with the poo...how embarassing is this and cannot believe I am posting it!!

I don't have any pain or discomfort and its not at every bowel movement. So, anal fissures? I'm stressing I've got cancer or something!

Go to your GP now, that's what they're there for. No point worrying yourself silly probably over nothing. Book now - go on!

I think if there's blood to be worried about, the poo looks really dark (like if you've taken iron tablets or drunk a lot of guinness!). Red blood means it's very fresh and therefore more likely to be anal fissures etc. Is the blood insdie the poo or on the surface? Was it definitely blood and not bits of undigested red pepper skin?!

Most sensible thing to do is to go to the doctor, however unpleasant.

Check you haven't eaten tomatoes or red peppers recently first, then see your GP. Can be any number of non-serious things, if it is blood, but you won't know without seeing someone.

Anal fissure is normally incredibly painful, and leaves blood on paper like piles.

I did have tomatoes and carrots last night funnily enough...oh this is sooo embarassing! It seemed to be in the poo rather than anything outside iyswim and it was fresh not dark and having obessively googled it (why!!) it seems that dark poo is the more dangerous. What made me a bit was that the water in the loo had turned a bit of a rusty colour - like what you would expect if blood was mixed with water and its not in my wee as I've checked that..

Maybe it was just what I've eaten..will have to monitor it really won't I? Ughh....

Bright red blood can be a sign of something nasty as well - not trying to scare you but it's dangerous to assume that just because it looks fresh it's all OK.

Keep an eye on your stool for the next week or so, have a think about your bowel habit over the last few weeks - and if still concerned in a few days head GP-wards...

Go to the doctor!
I had this and I had a colonoscopy - everything was fine and it turned out that I had a strange vein (i.e. like a pile, but much higher up) that was leaking a bit. And then stopped worrying about it, and have barely thought of it since. But if you don't go, you'll never know what it is and it will be at the back of your mind forever!

SubRosa · 07/07/2008 13:43

Get an appointment ASAP! There are loads of things that can give you blood in your poo. I panicked when I had it, but the colonoscopy showed it was caused by colitis.

I'm assuming you've never had this before, so even if it something nasty, you've got a much better chance if you get it sorted quickly.

Haemorrohoids can also be further up the rectum, so not always apparent.

Get yourself checked anyway.
