Cancer of the kidney - any one with knowledge?

My wonderful CM has got to go into hospital to have her kidney removed . I don't know what stage or grade it's at, other than they think the cancer is just confined to her kidney.
How long would she be in hospital for bearing in mind that everything goes 'well' (she is in her early - mid 60's).
She is hoping to get out within a week and be up on her feet within 2 weeks.
She is a very active lady and loves my boys to bits and they adore her.
We have grown quite close over the past few months and regularly meet up, just me and her for a coffee and a chat and walk our dogs together.

She goes into hospital this week

how sad ...not a great comfort to you, but my younger brother had this - sadly he died aged ten...think it was quite advanced by the time it was discovered. Hope all goes well for CM

Sorry to hear about your brother

She though she had a UTI when she first went to the Drs

It wont be key hole, it will be open surgery.
She does have a husband and 2 children in their 30's and plenty of good friends.
She has 4 dogs, several cats a guinea pig and 2 horses which her DH & friends will be looking after!
I'll be taking her American Bull to live with us until she is well enough as the dog isn't keen on her DH. I am looking at at least 2 weeks before she can have her back.

Thanks Cali, that's quite reassuring. Hope DS1's friends Dad continues to do well.
I know that CM doesn't want to go through with radio or chemo should it be offered to her.
