I need some honest stories on what the actual procedure feels like and how I can make it easier! I've seen loads be fitted but never been on the receiving end!

I have one, but I cannot help as mine was put in while I was under anaesthetic!!!

intrigued to know tho, as it will have to come out while I am awake, so my doc says!

mine was fine. but it was 6 weeks after my 2nd vaginal birth . love it though, 'tis no brainer contraception & will last 8 years altogether. i do have heavier periods though. would advice going to a family planning clinic to have it done, they do them all the time, more experience than a gp or nurse who does 1 or 2 a week.

I've booked mine with GP as cannot seen to get to FPC without youngest child in tow. I'm hoping it will be ok. What does it actually feel like?

take 800mg of Ibuprofen 20 mins before fitting.

It feels wierd, like really bad period pain but otherwise OK. I've never laboured (2 elec CSs) and my cervix was apparently tight, but it was fine.

The worst bit was sitting with your fanny in the air for 20 mins!!

I would be very, very wary of having it done by a GP. The FPC have a chaperone whos job it is to hold your hand, I'm sure they would be happy to play on the floor with your DD

I echo the taking of painkillers before-hand. Sometimes, though not always by any means, the cervix can go into spasm and that is rather uncomfortable!

How old is DD? My friend had hers fitted 8 yrs after childbirth and the doc, and I quote, said 'It's much easier quite soon after a vaginal birth - I could practically throw it in from the other side of the room!'

i think i took my kids with me when i had mine fitted - they were 3.5 & newborn. they didn't seem too interested .
