As title, 14yr DD fell up some stairs (!) in school on Friday, x-ray Saturday, inconclusive, splinted and in a lot of pain. They are saying they won’t x-ray again until 10 days have passed. Does this sound right?

Yes, it's normal to wait 10 days . This is to allow time for the fracture , if there is one , to show signs of healing .

Yes its normal. Scaphoid fractures can be very difficult to diagnose initially so 10 days for the 2nd x-ray is standard procedure.

We had this with DS, he had to go back 10 days to have it xray’d again. Fortunately it showed no fracture.

Yes, it can be really difficult to see a fresh fracture. It becomes more obvious as the bone heals.

Sounds right. You have to treat scaphoid fractures if you suspect them, as untreated ones part of the bone can die, causing significant wrist issues long term. When callus starts to form on the healing bone, they get much more visible on xray.

Brilliant thanks everyone, she is obviously not happy as it is very sore and not very patient with the waiting… happy half term to me! Just got some co-codamol from the pharmacy they said we can give them sparingly so planning on giving her one soon in the hope she and I can get some sleep.
