She says she hit it on the table in a temper. I didnt see it happen but she has a bruise on her arm about 2 x the size of a 50p. It hurts to touch but she can move her arm. There is a pea-sized lump in the centre.

Could she possibly have broken something without it being agony? Why would there be a lump?

Dont worry EV, perfectly normal, infact my dd has just had one of these on her hip after a nasty bang

Donk · 01/07/2008 20:39

Lump may well be haematoma. If so it should go down gradually as the bruising disappears.

Thanks loopylou6.

And thanks Donk. Can you tell me what that is without my googling and panicking?

A haematoma is just a region where the blood from the damaged blood vessels has pooled - sort of like a blood blister but deeper down. The pressure they exert on the other bruised tissue surrounding them can make them very painful to touch.
If it gets worse or you are otherwise concerned you could get it checked , but they are not generally a cause for concern. (NB I am NOT a doctor)
