I feel nauseated every day and nothing I do helps - what the heck is causing it?

I suffer from all day nausea and belching and nothing I try helps. I have been under dietitians and tried so many different diets, eliminated various 'trigger' foods, taken all the prescribed medications on offer and those off the shelf too. Tried ginger and all homemade remedies but recently the nausea has been almost non-stop.

I do have a long term diagnosis of IBS and functional dyspepsia. I been though every test offered and now discharge from the gastro department - I have had several gastroscopes with biopsies, colonoscopies with biopsies, a BAM scan, pill camera endoscopy, ct scans and MRI scans.

The only things picked up in the past have been endometriosis and adenomyosis, a very large (almost 10cm) left kidney cyst and a large liver cyst (8cm). The cysts have been discussed at a recent MDT meeting and no action is required apparently apart from yearly monitoring.

I am in late perimenopause and wonder if this may contribute to the issue? I have tried various HRTs but they all exacerbated the endo pain so my endo gynae advised me to stay off hormones.

But I just don't understand what is causing this persistent sicky feeling (thankfully I never vomit), it's down right miserable trying to go about your daily life with a deep gnawing nausea.

I am even starting to wonder if these two large cysts are pressing on my stomach and small intestinal area and causing the issue? GP isn't at all helpful so I am in limbo-land.

Has anyone found a good remedy for nausea that I may not have tried. It's making me feel so depressed, it is so annoying because I can't get to the root cause of it. How can I treat something if I don't know the cause? It's like a permanent morning sickness but all day.

I had this for over a year and it was due to endometriosis. I was prescribed omeprazole but it was pretty miserable as I was living on tomato soup and green apples as I could only stomach acid things. I had laser ablation (and a Mirena) and it all cleared up. The only long term effect was some mild acid reflux.

I think you need a second opinion on the endometriosis and the cysts. A decent private consultant will give you an honest opinion I would hope.

The NHS is notorious for doing nothing and hoping you'll go away but feeling sick is no way to live!

Phineyj · 07/10/2026 13:58

I mean you have an awful lot going on in the gut area. It'd be surprising if it wasn't having an effect.

I had endometriosis all over various bits of my gut.

seahorsessky · 07/10/2026 14:03

Endo was something we didn't hear much about until quite recently, but a lot of people say it affects their gut. Maybe get another opinion. I know someone who said her bowel issues got much better after her hysterectomy, so it might be worth asking a doctor about?

I sympathise fully OP, I was discharged from hospital on NYE just gone after having E-Coli and I've only just 10 months later stopped feeling sick, it's been utterly miserable, so I truly understand how you feel.
I expect you have tried great many remedies and diet plans (as you've stated).
Have you tried probiotics etc? Just a thought.
Could it be something to do with vision or hearing?
I have no real advice nor medical qualifications but maybe others on here may offer solutions or suggestions.
I just wanted you to know that I understand how debilitating it must be for you

I had get this periodically with my IBS. I've had IBS since I was 14 but every few years I get these symptoms when I have a flare up and it can last months. Never found anything on tests and changes to diet never work. Meds don't touch it. Only thing that ever works for me is being kind to myself. One meal a day eaten in the evening as I find the symptoms are less when I don't eat so this helps me barely survive the working day. Then after dinner off to bed with a book or netflix to ride out the worst of the nausea.

For me it eventually passes and I am back eating, drinking and functioning as a normal human for a few years

I do wonder if my perimenopause has exacerbated my endometriosis? I'd love to have a mirena as I think the localised progesterone may help but I had an ablation a few years back and now my cervix is sealed shut! I don't do well with oral hormones and the patches seemed to make things worse.

I've truly had enough of the NHS tbh, I'm saving to go and see the best endo gynae in our area so hopefully he'll have some suggestions 🤞

You poor things that must have been awful.

I have tried probiotics but didn't have much luck however, that was sometime ago and for my IBS, maybe I should try again and see if it'll help with this nausea.

I didn't give my heating a thought, I suffer from tinnitus and that's been awful during perimenopause, I'll look into that.

I am sitting with a hot water bottle and a ginger tea in the hope it may ease. Trying some mindfulness too in the hope it helps. I'll try anything to rid myself of this constant queasiness.

I've been ven resorted to sniffing alcohol wipes be sure apparently that helps!

I would love to try acupuncture again. I did give it a try last year but sadly I can’t afford to have regular sessions as I’m on carers allowance.

Are you taking magnesium? That can upset your stomach.

Bushwoolie · 07/10/2026 19:29

I suffer with chronic nausea and have done now for about 8 years. No other explanation found 🤷🏼‍♀️

Cookingdoesntgettougher · 07/10/2026 19:35

You may have already but try scratching and sniffing a lime or lemon. It helped me with me nausea and ondansetron worked a miracle.

No, no supplements at all because most do exacerbate the nausea.

You have my deepest sympathy. Have you ever found anything that helps ease it?

I do find that helps. When I was pregnant with my last dc I suffered awful nausea and would carry a grapefruit around with me, I’d dig my nails into the skin and sniff it, lemons help too.

I do have ondansetron but it gives me nasty headaches, so I save it for when I’m really bad.

I struggled with nausea almost every day for a long time. One food I loved and ate regularly was bananas. As soon as I stopped eating them I never felt sick again.
My GP says they have the same effect on him!

I can’t eat bananas either, they make me feel awful.

Silent reflux (LPR) is what turned out to be at the root of my nausea most of the time.

pilates27 · Yesterday 18:36

Have you been tested for H. pylori infection?

ThatGladTiger · Yesterday 18:57

Random but I find over the counter travel sickness pills cure my nausea!

What did you treat that with? PPIs?
