Hi ladies, Today is day 14 of the longest period I have ever had. Usually I am regular as clockwork (every 30 days and only lasting 5 days max, but its 2 weeks now and I'm becoming a little concerned. I am booking an appointment at the doctors for tomorrow, but wondered if any of you had experienced similar.
Now for the TMI, its as heavy as mid period bleeding, and is fresh red blood. Its not any heavier than usual, there are a few clotty bits but I am not in any particular pain, aside from aching back and funny shoulder. So whats causing it, and when is it likely to end?????

any cahnce you could be /. have been pregnant?

Panyanpickle77 · 29/06/2008 15:39

Not really, as dh is infertile after chemo and due to a condition he now has.....although he has not had his semen tested for a couple of years! I did wonder that myself, but remember the consultant saying that its highly unlikely the fertility would return.

i see. am sorry to hear that. just with you saying bleedng, clots and shoulder pain, i thought ectopic... are you seeing doc first thing? if pain gets worse or you feel dizzy or faint, or pass something big, then id; get seen tonight

Panyanpickle77 · 29/06/2008 15:44

No worries, its made contraception soooo much easier!
Its no worse than a normal period, its the length that's concerning me, along with the fact that it doesn't appear to be slowing down at all and is remaining fresh/red. (apologies again for way TMI)

Yes I have.

Out of the blue and normally very regular.

My GP said it could be stress (not sure if that's true) but I was run down. They checked all the usual things - smear, iud, etc, but I think it was just hormonal. After that they weren't very interested, which was kind of reassuring, and it stopped about a week later and that was it...

I think it's probably fine. I couldn't find anything too sinister when I googled it. I think fibroids might have come up, but it's more likely nothing.

I had referred pain in my shoulder after my cs, and so did my sister. It's quite an acute pain and doesn't respond to movement or pressure. It can be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy, which is why you must be aware of that possibility as that can need urgent medical treatment.

devonblue · 29/06/2008 16:01

My sister had referred pain from her cs, not mine, of course...

Panyanpickle77 · 29/06/2008 16:15

Ta DB, I'm probably noticing the shoulder pain more because I'm aware of the link (my ma and sister both had ectopics) and its one more thing for me to stress over (although its more of an dull ache). The actual bleeding is fresh red blood, as apposed to the tarry brown they experienced though.
Tis just so out of the normal thats its started to mither me now. Hey ho, I'll have to wait till the morning and see what the Dr says.

I think it's normal to be worried if you are used to bleeding at regular times and it just goes on and on. I really felt that something was majorly wrong, but it seems it's not that uncommon.

Hope it goes well tomorrow.

most likely a hormone imbalance or fibroids- or could be a miscarriage if you are pregnant and don't know it. As long as it is not puring out of you I think your trip to drs tomorrow should be enough.
