Anyone have any positive experience with Mirena coil? All I can find online is horror stories!

I’m about to have my 3rd. Non negotiable for me now!

Mine has been great since it settled down. I bled (lightly) for about 6 months then been fine. Stopped painful and heavy periods completely.

I've had mine for about 5 months.
Apart from the two week period when it was put in, which was quite annoying it's been fine.
I've lost 3kg, only a mini period each month.

Insertion was fine, I've never given birth or been pregnant and I just took paracetamol and ibuprofen before hand. I actually commented to the doctor that it wasn't as bad as I'd feared.

Oh yes you probably get a biased view from google because the thousands of women having a good experience don't ever think about it let alone take to the internet to write about it.

Also a good experience. I have mine for 6 years, had it removed yesterday in fact. Mine was mainly for contraception but also because my periods were heavy. Didn't hurt to fit (though I was only 1 month PP which apparently makes it less painful?!) and then stopped bleeding completely after a few months. Very easy to come out too. I might have another one, but wanted to see what my periods are doing at the age I am at now.....the GP and me agreed I may come to regret this little experiment!

I had my first for HRT which took quite a while to settle and I had heavy spotting for few months, which was annoying, but since then, no periods! Had my second one in a couple of months ago and didn’t have any after effects.
It was no more than a bit uncomfortable having them put in and removed.

Physically almost faultless - every few months get super-sore boobs for 2-3 days. Very rarely some very light spotting.

Emotionally - dropped my libido off a cliff and then buried it for good measure; and (apparently) made me incredibly difficult to be round a few days each month.

I had three from age 40 to 52. Absolutely game changer and saved me from a hysterectomy. Periods went from ten days of horrendous clots to a tiny spot once a month.
Yes insertion was painful as I have a retroverted uterus but the gain far outweighs the pain.

I had Mirena when I was perimenopausal, had very painful flooding periods every 3 weeks and fibroids. I don't recall insertion as it was done during investigative laproscopy.

I had some spotting afterwards for a while, then no periods which was a great relief. At one point after a couple of years it moved. I couldn't feel the string anymore. I ended up having an ultrasound and they confirmed it had moved and that the fibroids were still huge ( it was suggested the Mirena would help them shrink, evidently not). It slipped back into place again and then was fine until I had it taken out. That was really painful and I got a UTI after. Apparently my cervix is tilted in a way which makes things trickier.

Overall, I'm not sorry I had it done because the frequent heavy periods were absolute misery and by the time I had it taken out I was postmenopausal.

I've had Mirenas for nearly twenty years... Other than a bit of cramping just after insertion, no problems! I've had no periods to speak of, either, which is obviously an enormous bonus!!

Hysteroscopy by a doctor in an outpatient clinic when it was due to be changed. Didn’t take long and personally I’ve had far more unpleasant treatments at the dentist!

Just had it fitted today, no idea how it’s going to work but hopefully it will do the job as I have endo and really heavy periods. I cried like a baby and screamed when she put it in but I have a tilted uterus and she had to use three different things to get it in, I’ve also got fibroids so I’m concerned it will fall out but we shall see. Keep you updated but hoping it will put an end to my pain and bleeding!

Many has genuinely been lifechanging. I used to have very heavy periods that lasted literal months and were very debilitating and with other disabilities, I found them extremely hard to manage. I've only bled once since having mine fitted 2 years ago. My only regret is not having it fitted a long time ago! I have PCOS, Adeno and Endo so I appreciate my perspective might be more positive than others.

Ask for pain relief when it’s fitted. It baffles me that we have this procedure and so few women are offered any pain relief. My first Mirena was under sedation as I was having another procedure. No problems. Great for five years. Second was fitted wide awake. Caused lots of pain. Wasn’t positioned correctly. I ended up with another one being put in.

I really wish I had t been scared off by horror stories and had got a mirena a lot earlier than I did. Have had no issues whatsoever and no periods for years which is amazing.
