Follow up appointment after irregular bleeding and polyp biopsy

I am panicking a bit here.

I’m on the 2WW for irregular bleeding and had my first appointment last week. The consultant biopsied a cervical polyp which he said was ‘irregular and friable’. I also had a scan which showed some abnormalities. I’ve now had a text message booking me in for a ‘follow up appointment’ tomorrow and I can’t help but think it’s bad news.

Has anyone been through similar?

Hi, I’ve had several of these appointments and it should be to discuss the results of the biopsy and any other abnormalities.

I know it’s hard not to worry but usually they can be explained and if not they’ll talk about any treatment with you. Touch wood apart from further investigations I haven’t had to had any other treatment.

If you are really worried please take someone with you to the appointment.

I had some post menopausal bleeding at the end of May. My GP made two, 2week referrals - one to gynaecologist and one to urology as he found blood in my urine. Urology appointment came through quickly and I had the camera in my bladder as well as a CT scan of kidneys. Meanwhile I still hadn't heard anything about the gynaecological appointment. Turned out the referral person at GP surgery hadn't sent it as a two week referral. Anyway, eventually had the us scan which showed abnormalities so I then needed a hysteroscopy. At that appointment the doctor took a biopsy and arranged for an urgent MRI because, as she told me, she was very concerned about what she could see and fully expected a cancer diagnosis. I finally got the results of the MRI and the biopsy two weeks ago - all clear. This week I've had a further hysteroscopy to remove the thickened lining of the womb and some polyps. The consultant who did it said that he would send some of the tissue for more tests but as far as he is concerned, that's the end of it. I know it is worrying when you get a result because you expected - this is what happened after my us scan. I'd been told 10 days but got a call the next day! I really hope your results are good, but even if they are not, it sounds as though you and the GP etc have acted quickly so hopefully any action required will be taken quickly. 💐
