I just dont want to eat, i have had a lot of stress over the past 3 weeks but its nearly sorted now (even been put on anti depressants) but even though my appetite has come a little bit (i was at the point where actually putting food in my mouth and chewing would make me heave) i am worried about my lack of hunger and what it could mean

stress and depression can cause a lack in appetite.

The less you eat the less you want to eat.

How long have you been on anti-depressants? Have they started kicking in yet?

Is there any food you fancy? Even if it is junk?

I am on day 4 on my AD's, so early days yet, i am eating a bit now, today i had beans on toast with 2 slices of toast and DH just tried tempting me with a maccies but i only managed half a chicken burger and half the chips, normally id of wolfed the lot no problem. I also feel very full up after anything i eat (recent thing) is this just coz my tummy has maybe shrunk?

it could have or when tense/stress you tend to tense your muscles - I think that makes you feel full and find it difficult to swallow.

It's good you're getting help and it should be a lot better once the ADs kick in.

Also managing to eat something is more likely to keep you eating.

I hope you start feeling better soon.

It could be the anti depressant depending which one you are on. A lot of the older ones can make your mouth dry and make things taste odd. The newer ones can make you feel quite nauseous until you get used to them.

It's a real certainty that it's the AD causing loss of appetite. I went through a phase that it made me feel sick/nauseous to eat and I felt really terrible.
It took about a month before things settled to some extent.
I'd say if you are recently on ADs, they are definitely a factor to loss of appetite.

loopylou6 · 27/06/2008 23:26

Thing is though, the loss of appetite happened before the AD's, admittedly, i have been through a lot of stress which probably wouldnt of helped...is it really true that your tummy can 'shrink'?

How much before? It you were thinking about going to GP and getting help, maybe your system was reacting to it beforehand. Have to say I'm only guessing here, but can totally confirm that being recently on ADs can make you lose your appetite. (I think I lost over a stone )
If you don't think it ties in though, definitely go back go GP for help as there are a million other different reasons...

I was fine till i had a disturbing incident, thats when the loss of appetite kicked in, so its been nearly 3 weeks of stress. It does tie in, i was just thinking that maybe it should of returned by now.

Ah, could be that it was triggered by the stressful event and then starting on ADs carried it on. Definitely see GP though if you're worried, I think there are types of AD that don't interfere with appetite as much as others?
Hope you feel better soon
